I thought it must be something like "I overheard him order at Starbucks. He made them put 'Tarik Black. Kansas' on his coffee cup".

Based on his constant attacks of TB, he certainly doesn't know him.

If you followed NBA you would know that any multiple college player gets to pick his school for roster purposes. And Black got his freaking degree here. He is an alum but he picked Kansas. My last post on Black. Can't believe how much he is idolized in this thread for stated reasons.

23 years old; 22 years spent in Memphis, 8 months spent in Kansas; degree from Memphis. From the University of Kansas...Tarik Black.

What is it supposed to say? Would Tiger fans be ok with Dixon being from Mizzou or Pellom from GW? I know those weren't "hometown" boys, but it would certainly sound weird for a player not to use the university from which he last played as the designation.

If anyone can provide an example of a player being recognized (not on MNF) by a media guide or whatever legit reference not using his last school, I'm listening.

Tarik isn't the first native Memphian or Memphis grad our northern "friend" has tried to put down.

I would expect Dixon and Pellom to list their original schools. I am happy that they wanted to play here, but I wouldn't expect them to have the same attachment to Memphis as they do to their original schools.

Fair enough.

Can you think of any players who have listed their penultimate school for these purposes? As Nigel pointed out, Russell Wilson uses Wisky despite three years at NC State. What does Rodney Hood claim?

I can't think of any on either side; just stating my opinion. I don't like the fact that Rose doesn't and I never liked that fact Mike McKenzie didn't. If you have examples on either side other than Russell Wilson, I would be curious to know what the trend seems to be.

And Tarik didn't do any more for him than he did for us.

Maybe, just maybe, Tarik is having more success at the NBA level because the refs don't call a foul every time a big happens to come in contact with another player.

I mean, Tarik made a lot of silly fouls, reaching in, slapping at the ball, but he also had a lot of fouls called on him when an opponent jumped into the bottom of his arm or drove into his chest. Guard-loving college refs have ruined the game.

That's a good post and you make good points but I have no doubt that if Tarik would've signed with a top notch coach (Self, Izzo, Cal, Boeheim, Donovan, etc) out of high school, he would've been developed into a very good college player. Pastner couldn't develop a quality big if his life depended on it. Look at Shaq and Nichols. They are floundering.

Going into year 6 no big has vastly improved under Josh. Dude has a small ball mentality which means you’re going to get you’re a$$ kicked at the final dance. Now it appears he can’t develop guards either because so far none on this team can either dribble or take it to the rim.

I don’t blame Tarik for leaving and under the same circumstances I would have left too.

Black and Barton didn't improve. Elliot Williams did.

What? 03-confused

Dude you should stick to Ice Hockey or Dogsled racing because you no nothing about American sports.

I can't seem to find much. Hell, I can't think of many grad transfers that actually go on to play in the big leagues. Tarik and Russell Wilson

RE: Black
Derrick Rose was born and raised in Chicago. He is also in the unique situation of being able to play for a professional sports team in his hometown. This is why he is introduced as being from Chicago and not the U of M. You can't be upset with Tarik for not saying he is from Memphis while simultaneously being upset with Derrick for saying that he is from Chicago.
