the 23.5% from three is especially painful

Does anyone have our shooting percentages relative to the universe over the past 3-8 year? It just seems to be such a common theme year after year that we can't seem to shoot.

But maybe it's just how I read it

I will be honest, I was expecting more wins against these weak teams. Losing to UAA and St. Thomas?

We're pretty lean ourselves although I think we can play better. But we seem tight and nervous on the court - a lot of unforced turnovers by Jackson and Guercy.

We need to start Mency over Green IMO. And he needs to shoot more too.

I don't think the shooting percentages are going to get a lot better. The players are maxed out on talent, so except for incremental improvement from experience the shooting is as good as it gets.

I wish Rhoades could get them to play the entire game with the focus and intensity of the last five minutes. They'd be winning some of these games if they did.

RE: Rice MBB vs. HBU Game Thread
The stretch where we had a chance to tie at 46 and missed a layup giving HBU a layup was a killer momentum wise and HBU went on to stretch it out to 9 before we climbed back in. At that point our D was beginning to force bad shots and some turnovers but that gave HBU a second wind it seemed.

The lack of scoring from Max has been a problem along with getting inside shots but missing them making the misses from 3 even more harmful. The second half defense was better (and I agree with FBO about coming out tight) and HBU missing I think the first 7 FT's in the second half put us back in the game.

The game didn't seem as close as it was but still we are getting (somehow) to the last minute of games before losing unlike the last couple of years bowing out at about the final five minutes. I did like the smaller lineup with Max, Seth, Jackson, Mensy, and Rivers on the floor and would like to see more of it.

Well the next 2 are against a D2 school and an NAIA school in our building. We should win both of those, hopefully in somewhat comfortable fashion.

So unless I'm missing something, we just can't shoot, and it's been this way for a while.

You'd think that we could find a few shooters

St. Edward's should beat Rice fairly comfortably (10+ points). Conversely, Rice should have little trouble with St. Thomas.

St. Edwards is 8-0 last I checked.

HBU has one of their better squads I'd say (although nothing amazing by any stretch). Their 6-7 sophomore from Alaska is a real find.

St. Ed is 8-0 against all non-D1 competition. Most games were reasonably close. I think we should beat them.

RE: Rice MBB vs. HBU Game Thread
this team compares to Willis's last team that played in front of friends and relatives at Astroworld and Katy High School.

We sit today at 313 in Sagarin which is EXACTLY where we were on April 7, 2008.

A 6 year journey back to where we started.

Ben Braun will never work again.

A small but very hard to disguise blemish on the resume of Chris Del Conte.

St Ed's and St Thomas have already played. St Ed's won by 33 at home.

I think we will lose to St Ed's and squeak by St Thomas
