So basically they are asking for money today with a goal of $25k but all donations will be matched dollar for dollar by Lisa & Doug Freeman.

Just donated too. This was a good idea it's similar to crowdfunding. A sense of community by pitching online to a common cause.

RE: Giving Tuesday NIU
I was totally bombarded with all kinds of e-mails all day to give. Deleted them all. I give throughout the year, so a "special" day for donations means nothing to me. I donate a lot to the HAF and NIU, and was not about to give more yesterday. Plus, I heard that HAF donations for next year may be accelerated and we'll be getting an HAF packet this month. Don't know how true that is. Although it's good to get the tax deduction for 2013, December is usually a very rough month financially for many people.

I always wonder why people ask for money in December. What a terrible time to do a fundraiser.

They do it for donors to get in the last-minute tax deduction for that year. I rarely give anything substantial in December because of holiday expenses. Plus, there's the conference championship and bowl game that drain people's wallets.

You might be right lets see what the final amount was. It's supposed to be about being in the spirit of giving to those that are in need like NIU. Seriously we are some broke asses if you compare our budget (ie: 21 Million) compared to Wisconsin (ie: 125 Million). We have some lofty goals and expectations in the coming years hopefully this marketing campaign works. Crowdfunding is a quantity vs quality marketing campaign with everyone giving some pocket change.

I think I just made our school sound like a homeless person. Ha.

Giving a small donation is wonderful. However, in the e-mails I got, I was asked to give amounts in the hundreds. Not gonna happen this time of year.

Yeah that's a tough one.

Me too. It was at $21,000 around 9 last night when I donated, so someone must've come through in a big way right at the end.

I did see a tweet shortly after I donated (I think 7 or so it was around dinner) that a lady was donating $10 for every person that donated for the next hour or so. Maybe there was a push after people got home from work.

They must have really wanted the biggest donor prize!

I'll bet I know who that lady was. If it's who I think it is, she has tons of money and donates big time to Athletics.

Her name was Sandi Yandle I believe.
