This is the first time in the history of the MVP award that an O-Lineman has won it. A punter has won the award in the past, but that was Brad Maynard who played in the NFL for around 15 years.

Also, not sure who complained about stingily, but 3rd team is the best be could get.

Look at the guys in front of him, I'd take all of them over Cam. They also all had better stats and their best games outdo his.

Yes, he shared carries but Hunt, Franklin, Rawls, and Edwards are all better. Honestly, he could have missed the team all together if Travis Greene was healthy.

Hendrix got third team All-MAC while completing a gaudy 49.3 percent of his passes, interesting choice.

DaRon Brown was held down by having a young QB throwing to him. With Harnish as his QB he would have 15 TDs.

As a former O-lineman myself it's cool to see Mancz get his props but I would have given the MVP to Franklin.

Corey Thomas, Ben Compton and Aregeros will be on this list next year.

I don't even think Joe Staley won Vern Smith and everyone knew he was a 1st round pick.

English won it the year Staley was around.

How the hell is Tyler Wedel not on here as a punter? The kid has been fantastic this year punting the football and pinning people back.

Ultimately, here's the big reason I think Mancz won the Vern Smith, and it has little to nothing to do with him, and really it's kind of unfair to both Hunt and Franklin when you think about it.

The voters don't want to give this award to a freshman. Plain and simple.

The two players most commonly mentioned among us for the award were Franklin and Hunt. Both made 1st team, but obviously the voters thought Franklin had the better season because he won both Freshman of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year.

Based on that logic though, they handcuffed themselves on the Vern Smith because if they didn't want to give it to Franklin because he was a freshman, they essentially eliminated the only other serious competition to him because they gave him the OPY award over Hunt and they play the same position.

There was no dominant defensive player this year in the conference, so they had to find someone on offense and Mancz may have gotten it by default as the best of the rest.

How much you wanna bet the voters took into account how much he struggled as place kicker this year?

That's really unfair, but it's the only thing I can think of because he's been one of the best punters in the conference the entire year and, as mentioned, he's a semi-finalist for the Ray Guy award.

Hopefully, NFL teams are noticing Wedel. Or do they only pay attention to yardage? He deserves a shot.
