Honestly, none of you know anything about fan apathy. I grew up a Tiger fan, but I attended SMU in the mid-90's post death penalty. At SMU at that point we won, maybe, one football game a year. Our basketball team was horrible. The best team on campus was women's soccer. It was a joke on campus then that SMU students spelled apathy a-p-a-t-h... when it came to sports. We just didn't care. Hell, they gave out pizza and couch seats court side at Moody then and students wouldn't show (I know because I often got the seats to watch the Ponies get pummeled). That is apathy.

This sucks, but it isn't apathy.

You bet. And as a side note, you're on a message board worried about apathy while your football team awaits a bowl bid. SMU has completed its "Quest for Perfection" and become (I believe) the worst NCAA football team in history based on Point Differential, topping the 1915 SMU Mustangs. Got to love having the top two spots!

The problem is that SMU basketball - outside of the Jon Koncak years - didn't exactly pack 'em in. I know that SMU apathy is >>> Memphis apathy but the COSTS associated withe Memphis apathy is pretty staggering. Apathy for a program that used to be THE EVENT in Memphis. "Louisville week" and "Huggins comes to town" were a part of the conversation for many a Memphian when the program was at its peak.

I recognize that the Tic Price years were simply dreadful, but there was always a feeling that it could be recouped. Not so much now with the Grizz in town.

Have you seen the program on ESPN about the cheating at SMU? They were easily the cheatingest team in a cheating league.

Yeah, SMU was worse than Texas, Alabama, USC, and UNC currently. We just got caught.

RE: I Really Hate to Use the A Word
When I was at Vandy, I remember attending about two football games. I also remember the Vandy students pulling for Alabama to beat Vandy one year in Vandy's stadium so that Bamer could win the SEC championship.

THAT is apathy, or maybe mutiny or treason. It was very bad times.

This year, I decided to forego my season Tiger bb tickets because I am a bit tired of all the drama on the team. You never know who will "show up" or who will be pouting or leaving the team or being disciplined.

Plus, Wednesday night games are very hard to make on time during the work week.

But mainly, I just decided that the extra $250 donation I had to make for the privilege of buying a $250 seat in the nosebleeds could be used for something else dear to my heart, like helping humane organizations rescue dogs and cats on death row and paying for sterilizations to slow the animal holocaust down.

I do, however, still love my Tigers, and plan to be at the majority of the Saturday games.
