Protest from UAB Basketball
This as we all know affects basketball. Would the basketball team dress out, and sit on the court in protest? Refuse to play. Would they want to represent a university that doesn't support their peers? Its already shown that they don't have the best interests for UAB basketball as we risk the loss of conference affiliation.

I would hope so. The loss or forfeit would be worth the statement.

It's a lot to ask. But it's no more than the women athletes have already done: they were out in force today and filled with rage.

Beat whatever team we play next by 50, and then sit down on the court for the last 3 minutes.

Our 6 Freshmen are the best incoming class I've seen since the 90's. We are going to be tougher than a waffle house steak come January. That said, If I'm Jared Haase, I'm on the first charter flight out of town next spring. And I'll bet 4 of the 6 Freshmen leave with him.

Now is the time to show solidarity and complete resolve. Basketball games, graduation, etc. I wish I was there but it's probably best that I'm not.

When BSC announced it was dropping from DI to DIII, while still remaining DI for the next four years, the entire basketball team transferred immediately.

If I were Haase, I would be gone. And wouldn't doubt Marla leaving too. She's been offered "bigger" jobs before but wanted to build something at UAB. And what coach of any caliber, any sport, is going to want to come coach at UAB now?

No offense to anyone...but considering I was at the rally on Sunday night and both Protests and didn't see a single UAB Basketball player in attendance (but saw a member of every other sport and spirit team), I'd say that was doubtful.

Some are saying they were told not to participate in anything.

UAB basketball was successful without Football. That won't happen again. Basketball was killed by Mike Davis. No Basketball conference will come calling. These players have to fight for their peers if they want to stick around and have a chance to be successful.

Yesterday as well. I saw a number of coaches at the Admin building.

I think the basketball team protesting is the only thing that will work. Without a no confidence vote soon uab athletics is pretty much over for the forseeable future.

It don't think it will happen because they won't turn against their coach. But make no mistake about it Haase will be gone because of conference implications and the players will be transferring in droves after the season.

Unless he goes back to Roy Williams, there probably are not a lot of people knocking on his door right now. Whatever conference UAB ends up in may be his best opportunity.

I suspect he will be looking for assistant coaches soon, though

My bet is that Watts' people got to Haase recently and promised him a lot of money for his program. You know, since we have 50 mill to "reallocate".

In all seriousness, the BB teams silence in all of this was most certainly intentionally done. Watts sees basketball as a ready made product that doesn't need a ton of capital investment. All he had to tell Haase is you're going to get more money and support and we won't be dropping to a lesser conference. It's all lies but he is his boss for the time being.

I'm still waiting for us to dominate this watered-down C-USA. That was our plan for success in the Sun Belt glory days....and how Memphis re-established themselves in the best C-USA years.

Even if, God forbid, we do drop to the A-Sun or the Belt...we simply must dominate in order to be relevant.

I don't even want to think what our OOC schedule will look like...

If they are going to put the money in they said they were we should dominate any conference we end up in and should be able to make our OOC pretty stellar.

Did I say Watts spoke to Haase in my last post? I must be drinking too much lately. I bet that man hasn't spoken a word to him since the day he was hired.

I feel like unless we want to extend the arm of Watts negativity onto destroying our other sports that were spared I think we must be very careful not to give reasons and proof that this spastic made the right decision and that plays into exactly what the BOT want to happen.

Watts has already done much to destroy our other sports. He sounds like he actually thinks we can stay in CUSA because we're UAB. There seems to be no back up plan.

That might be because there is nowhere decent to land. He's a complete tool.
