Top 9 things to do in Cincinnati this weekend (Dec. 4-7)

Reds
Bengals
Cyclones

Are you effin kidding me.03-banghead

I've never understood the indifference the local media has towards UC athletics. Our average attendance in football the past seven years is in excess of 30,000. There are over 150,000 local alums and 42,000 students. How do you not always consider UC football and basketball games as a top 10 event in town? Do the Cyclones draw 30K a game? Will there be 30K people to see Elf--- strike that, will there be 3K to see Elf?

Cincinnati has to be the media market that is least supportive of its major university in the entire country. It's an absolute joke.

I can tell you what the problem is, having worked in the media. As blatantly WRONG as it is, there are too many fans of other schools in this area that the media outlets are afraid of upsetting to mention in these types of things. YES, it is stupid. YES, it is ignorant. YES, I want it to change immediately. I'm just the messenger here.

If you don't like it, speak up to those in charge at the media outlets in town. I know I'll get the whole "They should be covering and promoting UC regardless" argument, and I agree 1000%. But the reality is that is not the case in this town so we have to make some noise and demand that these changes be made.

Let me say it again, I do not endorse these practices, I'm simply pointing out their flawed logic as to why so many in the local media are so ignorant when it comes to UC.

I agree that is one of the big reasons why. I am not shooting you as the messenger, but that is a really stupid argument for media types to make. Are there really going to be a bunch of OSU/UK fans calling into WCPO bitching because they listed the UC football game as a Top 9 Thing to Do in town this weekend? Even if they are, the simple argument is that the list is about what is going on in "this" city, not another. If the OSU/UK fans don't like it they should move to Columbus or Lexington where they can get all the coverage of their teams they can stomach. Having lived in Columbus for 12 years I can tell you even a lot of OSU fans I know think the coverage is way over the top.

Have to agree completely with what you're saying. I have called media folks out on this issue and had them respond. I'm always civil about it and generally get a response in kind.

Most amazing to me is WLW. If, if, if something is moving forward with the B12 wouldn't it behoove the big one to be part of the solution? After all, a UC broadcast featuring Texas, Oklahoma or Baylor should generate more interest from both advertisers and listeners than games against Tulsa, Tulane or SMU. Their folks on-air don't believe AAC teams move the needle locally. Fine. Let's get to the P5 and sold out Nippert and see what that does for local ratings.

If anybody is looking or knows anybody trying to hand off some free tickets please let me know (PM me).

Hate being one of "those guys" that only goes with free tickets, but a family addition, reduction in income (spouse moving to part time), and more bills have made it difficult to have the disposable cash for tickets, parking, etc. etc.

Thanks!

RE: Free Tix to Houston Game
Hindsight being 2020, UC should have given tickets away to prospective students on tours etc. all year while we played at PBS. Given, that'd only be what - 3 or 4 games where that would have been feasible since a few of the games were week nights, but it would have helped fill the otherwise cavernous stadium.

Regardless, here's hoping the push for this weekend has something to do with impressing those who influence conference expansion...

RE: Free Tix to Houston Game
I think giving out free seats for the game is good idea. I really expect next year to be sold out every game. I am afraid weather might scare people away from the game or club seats will look empty as people retreat to the inside club area. Another problem with fans is this league just doesn't have exciting opponents.

RE: Free Tix to Houston Game
I know free tix are a dime a dozen for this game, but I hate to see them go to waste. I have two of my seven tickets available in lower bowl, 35 yard line, uc home side for free. For some reason my PM's appear to be turned off and I can't figure out why. Email me through the site and you can get them from me in the morning. Hoping all my seats are full when Bob Bowlsby stops by to ask me how I'm doing. (Bowlsby part is sarcasm, ticket offer is serious)

I know it's last minute but let me know if anyone has 1 extra. Found a brother-in-law that can now go. I'll end scalping a cheap one if I can't find one of the thousands of free tickets out there.
