RE: Um wow....
Looking at their numbers no wonder the math didn't add up. They project scholarships will go up 65% the next five years and coaches salaries up 33%.

Coaches salaries with football 2019 - $8.5M, without $4.8M.

I assume their football coaches all in make around $2M, so they are projecting an additional $2.8M, wow what a bunch of BS.

Oh and good luck with your projections of donations only dropping 15%, especially in the short term.

With assumptions like these any G5 program would be shut down.

Carr was paid to give the BOT what they wanted, scum bags.

It's probably the truth. You know what the additional benefits the P5 are going to enact are going to be costly. Even just the stipends itself will stretch a lot of G5 budgets and with tuition increases amplifies it even more. On top of that, there is lifetime insurance, unlimited food, etc.

We might as well close up shop now then.

Why would coaches salaries more than double?

This whole thing feels like 1985. I never wish this on any program. There are a lot of similarities too. New coach, optimism for the future. Least they didn't build an on campus stadium a few years ago.

Standard human resources response when you lay a bunch of people off. I guess they were escorted to their cars with a cardboard box of their stuff?

Even more disheartening is within this same state system, down the road in Tuscaloosa you have Nick Saban living the good life with his $6.9 million salary. Man, I love college football...but what has this sport become? The money...

Yes. Exactly. None of these numbers make sense. Carr Sports did a similar study for JMU (which by the way, their report was 8x longer and still vague) for them wanting to simply go from FCS to FBS football. They predicted their donations would raise by 100%. For UAB, they predict our donations will only decrease 15% for ENTIRELY DROPPING FOOTBALL??? makes no sense. We're not even going to be subsidizing less, we just simply won't have football, and that is what the BOT wanted.

football and sports in general are a huge drain on a university unless you are at a high enough success level to bring in revenue. some schools consider the money to be well spent and to be good for the university overall but some just see the dollars and cents of it. while ut-austin has over 100 million in sports revenue some schools have only a few. a totally disinterested bystander might say that a school that draws only a few thousand fans and cant beat any good teams should probably not even be offering the sport. maybe in the grand scheme of things only the flagship schools with a large fanbase and state pride behind them should field teams at the top level.
