No, I figure guys like him don't walk away because things are bad, they just work harder. Doesn't mean he'll be successful at it but he's too driven to succeed to walk away from it. He'd rather fix it.

Why would you not have Pearl on your list?

I think he would take us to the same level that Cal did. And he is a better floor coach than Cal.
Here's something to think about...Pearl ain't leaving AU after one year. We won't fire JP after this year. BUT, next year, if no improvement, you could get your wish

Yeah, I suspect Pastner gets a reprieve and one year at least with the Lawsons.

There will be no reprieve if the fans bail on the program.

Bingo, I was there, and it didn't look good and people all around me were *issed off.

Not if it continues like this. Waiting a year doesn't do any good because of the auto-renewal in his contract I think. You'd still owe the same to Pastner next season as you would after this season (I think)

Fans have bailed and they're bailing right now in droves. I really don't get this idea of him having 2 years or even 1 if the arena goes empty.

No, because now we're at the point where people have stopped buying the "players aren't doing what they're supposed to" line and are starting to think it's the coach. I don't know what kind of team it would take to get Pastner to a sweet 16 barring a top 4 seed, probably minimum talent level like the 05-06 or 06-07 team there?

I hate to say this but I'm not going to another game until he is fired. Gave up my season tix 2 years ago.

Yeah, I dunno anything about his contract. This reminds me of the book about the morning show wars (Today, GMA, etc). There was a reference to character being defined by sticking with it, not giving up, even in the face of insurmountable odds. A completely different perspective to the descriptions of duty and soul fans are imposing here.

This will be an interesting season... I'd prefer knowing, not suspecting or hoping, that someone of similar recruiting ability and superior coaching chops was on the other side of the abyss.

Some people just aren't cut out for a job. We rolled the dice on a young guy with no real coaching experience at a time when it was fashionable to have a young prodigy like Shaka smart or brad stephens. Well pastner has proven he doesn't have it and likely never will. We appropriately bailed on Larry porter in football - a guy with similar lack of qualifications.

I guess I never bought that line... But I've always mostly heard that line from other fans, mostly on this board, the apologists.

I'm guessing neither Smart or Stephens were willing to be Cal's successor. Which is another interesting wrinkle that would be gone.

It's a nice reference, Porter. Great recruiters. First HC jobs. Questionable ability.
