RE: Stony Brook
Great rebound from the awful Ole Miss game and reason to be hopeful that this team can produce on the offensive end of the court. Congrats to the players and coaching staff! Can we assume that some extra offensive drills happened in practice?

This team is too young and inexperienced to not have some ups and downs this season. Bottom line: there is enough talent to score points on this team. Guys just need to learn their roles and get consistent. The Ole Miss game was bad, but young guys ate not goin to learn if they dont lose.

Shaq knockers had good reason to be silent, and they were.

Same with those low score critics.

What they really need is another game soon, as this game gave them momentum. May not be good for a young team to have such a long delay until Nebraska.

Shaq, with that terrible shot, is streaky. Streaky means there will be good games and bad games, but no consistency. I know that if the game is on the line I don't want the ball in his hands.

If Shaq can prove it's not a fluke against Nebraska, I'll feel a little better.

I really do think Shaq has it in him, but as Terry Nelson said, no doubt repeating what he has heard from Coach, he just needs to stop over thinking things. I haven't given up hope.

Nebraska is going to challenge everyone, not just Shaq. Petteway and Shields are going to be tough to stop.

Watched a lot of their game yesterday against FSU, they looked pretty good. I'd be very pleasantly surprised with a win at their place.

This year is going to be all about being consistent, we all know that's very hard for young and new players (see Farad Cobb ). We'll just have to let the year play out and see what happens. Boy, the game sure is a lot more fun when shots are falling and the team is actually scoring fast break points. Might be a bad time for such a long break, hard to stay consistent when not playing.

Certainly possible with the long break but the opposite may be true too. A young team gets some intensive work in practice and a chance to go knock off a potential top 25 Nebraska on national TV and make amends for a poor showing against Ole Miss. I'm hoping for that scenario...

Shaquille is best in the open floor. If he can get out and run and score in transition, it gets his confidence going. He's just not a consistent half court threat and I will be surprised if he ever is. He did shine in the second half when the tempo was up. Our offense works best in that scenario. Hopefully Mick let's the kids run a bit more.

Yes. One good game (half, really) is nothing to get excited about. Does offer tangible hope however.

shaq's been here 4 years now and it's time he starts being consistently good. He's running out of time to get better. The ball's in his court now.

I'm sorry, but it's way too late in his career for that. If he was going to fix his shot it needed to happen in his red shirt year, it ain't happening now. I'd much rather he focus on his ball handling, that could be fixed in an offseason.

Now, now. Hope springs eternal. Remember, Bearcat Land anointed Cobb the next Nicky V. after one good game of shooting when not guarded despite the fact the kid has been on the back of a milk carton since.

At this point, more than one of our players is like a thoroughbred with a sore leg. You know, the horse looks beautiful, walks like a champion, but runs the track like a plow horse.

Shaq is a prime example.

In case you don't remember, in his junior year, JJ averaged 3.8ppg, .418 from the field, had a .512 free throw average, 78 personal fouls and 54 turnovers.

There is still hope Shaq. 03-yes

Not entirely, he was pretty good against Middle Tennessee and NC Central. Until he learns to be consistent though, I'm not expecting a whole lot other than ball handling from him. I don't think the hoopla is as exaggerated as it was after that Morehead State game. They really did look much better against Stony Brook. Part of that is because they aren't nearly as tight on defense. I'd expect a bunch more zone. They're simply not as good on rotation as previous teams. If they can keep the offense firing and not have the backcourt do what they did against Ole Miss, they might not need to be as good on D.

RE: Stony Brook
Cobb is a catch and shoot player. He can not create his own shot. When he puts it on the floor and drives he usually gets caught in no man's land and throw ups some half cocked floater that has no chance of goin in. If he drives, he needs to be looking to dish. He has had a couple of nice assists that way.
