These fans are going to be sad...all seven of them. Otherwise, nobody really cares.

Kind of like these 7 fans?

The comments by #1 do not disgust or repulse me. They just reinforce my opinion that he enjoys misery. Seriously, if you watched that cell phone video on the main board of the teams reaction to the news and don't feel bad, you are not human.

This board is called Bearcat BANTER. Just because we disagree doesn't mean we're acting like teenage girls.

When someone on the internet makes fun of another program (not even your team) and you state that you are "disgusted" followed by someone's "repulsed", you do sound like a teenage girl. I got a decent laugh out of it though so thanks for the banter.

If a genuine disgust in someone poking fun at an athletic department's demise is reminiscent of a teenage girl, then what do you call the outrage that followed when Tuberville was reported to have played a game of golf?

I don't find either childish. I'm laid back enough to laugh at a lot of things, but that comment still rubbed me the wrong way. And that directly stems from all the emotional turmoil i've experienced as a result of conference realignment. Call that childish, but you have all experienced it. We've all felt what its like to be mocked by a superior program, and even though I may be overdramatic at such notions, can you actually pretend that you haven't done the same?

I try to enjoy College Football for the right reasons. But it has often become more than just a game.

So my apologies if you find an emotional attachment to a program "dramatic".

All seven fans are pissed.....

Imagine how you would feel if UC shut down football. Imagine all the hours you invested. All those emotions. Gone. Like that. And then imagine that they were shut down because a corrupt system allowed an OSU controlled Board of Trustees to rob the University of it's program.

And then imagine having to read ignorant comments like your own.

Quite frankly, and as harsh as this sounds, your post disgusts me.

He's a Ray Watts. Nothing else needs to be said.

Because I'm not wringing my hands, hanging my head and acting like a total pu$$y about this like you and a few others, it makes me a dbag?

ef you...really, ef you

UAB football sucks. It sucks so it's shutting down. Don't give me that HS paranoia about mean old Alabama. UAB is so irrelevant in that state Alabama doesn't give a $@% about them. If UAB was good, if it made money, if it had a following, it wouldn't be in cusa and being shutdown. Really...ef you.

If the bag fits................

I'm more disturbed by the rumors of an intent by the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa to sabotage not only UAB's athletic program, but the entire university. And, I feel bad for anyone who ever attended UAB, or that lives in Birmingham for that matter. UC and UAB have a lot in common, and we should be empathetic to their plight.

This thread is hilarious.

So we can add the UAB Brigade to the Huggs Brigade. Good job girls...good job.

Fight on brave UAB Brigade...maybe you all can go protest and chain yourselves to Legion Field!!!

This.

Definitely disturbed by the Bama alums destroying another school. You can be the best on your own merits and not have to tear down someone else. I hate Miami and X, but if I found my way onto a board I'd fight like hell for their athletics.

I'm not disgusted by #1's comments, I just don't share them. Seems to be a dedicated fan, good enough for me on an anonymous message board.

It is exactly the same way all the P5 fans view us. They couldn't care less if we ever get in, because they see us as small and irrelevant. Knowing what it feels like on this side, makes me not want to be that way.

Standing on internet rumors.....sifting sand at best. I'll leave it at that.

More likely, the program was losing money like water through a sieve, the school didn't want to commit to an on campus stadium, mainly because UAB football is an afterthought, and given their attendance woes it didn't make financial sense to keep the program going.

But hey, if internet rumors float your boat, have at it.

Most D1 programs lose money on football. If UAB was averaging over 20K that is probably better than dam near every MAC team. Program was not shut down due to due to internet rumors. Thanks for keeping the bag on your head. It fits you well.

Yeah I think the only MAC school to average over 20K is Ohio (Buffalo and Toledo have 19K and some change). There are 4-5 schools in the MAC who average less than 15K and Akron is averaging less than 10K.

I believe it was a crappy thing that happened to UAB. There is no doubt the folks in Tuscaloosa killed that program. I do believe ultimately the undergrad program there will die and Alabama will find a way to bring the Medical School under their umbrella (thus vaulting them into the AAU).

That being said, I agree with Bearcat Jerry's post above that in the near future 25-30 schools in the FBS are either going to drop down to FCS or drop football completely. In most of those instances it probably for the best for the solvancy of the universities, the students (getting taxed with so many fees) and the taxpayers of their respective states.

For FBS, the optimum number of teams is somewhere around 100. Given the current numbers, that means that 25+ schools probably will be weeded out. And lets be frank for a minute... there's really no good reason why whole conferences like the SBC could not drop...en-masse...to the FCS level for FB. Heck, even the MAC, with it's storied history, probably could do quite well on the FCS level. Remember, this is purely a FOOTBALL decision; their other sports could remain at "D-1," and wouldn't miss a beat.

The sad thing is that UAB...for a number of reasons...didn't even have the option of dropping to FCS level. Their BoT wouldn't have allowed it, they didn't have the facilities, etc... Their ONLY option was to either continue at FBS or drop altogether. Likewise, Hawai'i has that hard choice in front of them as well. They cannot really do FB any other way than FBS. The UH program will be next in the "drop" category.

But let's also not be sentimental here: UMass, for example, is trying to do FB on the cheap. They want the $$$ without spending anything on facilities, etc. Some 20-odd programs have moved up from FCS to (now) FBS levels to cash in and not all of them have spent anything substantial on building their programs. Facilities, coaching salaries, promotional activities....a whole lot of schools do not make an investment but want the pay-outs. That does nothing good for college FB. (Hello, Idaho??? Hello, Georgia State???) It sucks for their fans...I get that. But UC made a decision 20 years ago when Nippert was condemned: That was the single moment where UC got off the pot and began to invest. That decision ran over into the coaching decisions where we fired Rick Minter when it became obvious he wasn't going to take us the next step and we gambled on an up-and-coming Mark Dantonio. It also spilled out onto the conference scene when we escaped CUSA to jump into the BE.

If you want to know where UAB and UC's trajectories part, look at that single decision. And it's not all UAB's "fault," but if UC had decided to marginally fix Nippert but to basically hold pat, it might well be UC making that announcement today. But we didn't. And so we have a fighting chance for the future.

I'm sorry for UAB fans and students. But it is what it is.

We are about to buy Turner Field and convert it for football. Investment enough?

Its one thing if the UAB had ended football of its own accord. This is not what happened. This was a revenge play by Paul Bryant Jr. pure and simple.

Actually not an internet rumor. We have family in Birmingham. The school wanted to commit to an on campus stadium. The Bama BOT found a way to kill the deal. I have no problem with your opinion. However, gain some knowledge before you speak

The Bama BOT found a way to kill the stadium deal called striking it from the agenda prior to the meeting despite $75M in private donation pledges. That was in 2011.

They also killed the deal in 2006 to make Jimbo Fisher the HC

This has always been about Gene Bartow's letter to the NCAA in 1991. He accused Wimp Sanderson and by extension Bear Bryant and his coaching tree of coaches throughout the country of improper recruiting tactics. Little Bear has been after UAB ever since.

I recall you bring so emotionally distraught and weepy after the Memphis game you said wins don't matter and that you needed to get away.

Starting to think you are maybe that emotional wreck on YouTube who was crying about people being mean to Brittney Spears.

This is all so disturbing, I know. It's the worst thing in the history of things . Need a hug?
