I hate to be a party pooper but who will Georgia State, Troy, and USA pick up the next two year to replace UAB.

Too soon. But my guess is a FCS program.

How much will UAB owe us for breach of contract?

UAB owes Tennessee 900+k

RE: Question for GSU, Troy & USA Fans
Troy will likely add an FCS team. They have games at NC State, at Wisconsin, and at Mississippi State. They need a home game and aren't already playing an FCS. Easy fix for them.

Georgia State plays Charlotte, and Liberty at home and plays at Oregon. They will most likely not fill in another FCS game unless it's unavoidable.

USA plays NC State and Gardner-Webb at home and at Nebraska. They will not add another FCS.

Scheduling is a lot harder for GSU and USA right now than it is for Troy. UAB's other non-conference opponent, Tennessee, could pick up USA or GSU, if either wants another P5 team.

@DEwiseTrojan: UAB will pay Troy $400,000 to buy out the 2 games already scheduled with Troy, per athletic department.

Thanks UAB! Not the greatest of circumstances. But we will take the cash!

RE: Question for GSU, Troy & USA Fans
@DEwiseTrojan: Troy AD Hartwell said he has been hearing rumors about UAB for a few weeks and has been laying groundwork for new games.

@DEwiseTrojan: Helping 2015 is the fact Troy has no FCS team scheduled, which "opens the pool" for potential replacements -- Hartwell

@DEwiseTrojan: For 2016, looking to set up a road game with a team returning to Troy in 2019 since 2017-18 schedules are full.

@DEwiseTrojan: Hartwell said he hopes to have both deals in place by end of the week.

Question for GSU, Troy & USA Fans
We hope to drop Oregon. I think GSU realizes how important wins are to this program. I would hope a FCS team but would be okay with a low caliber G5 team. North Texas, UTEP, someone like that.

I've seen you post that a couple of times and am wondering the reason. Is that game not lucrative enough to justify the trip?

That's the idea, but I would still keep the game. We made the date, we should stick by it.

Don't have any idea at this stage as all of this happened like a bomb dropping, but I would like USA to replace them with Southern Miss, Tulane, Georgia Tech, or any other regional team. Since BYU has gone indy, that would be something. I just think it's a darn shame this had to happen. We were really looking forward to playing UAB in football. We were big rivals with them back in the old Sun Belt days and our arenas would be packed out for basketball, literally.

RE: Question for GSU, Troy & USA Fans
even though Ga State has 1 FCS program on the schedule, would it really hurt that much to go ahead and put another?

not trying to dog on them, but they will already have a tough schedule, and hitting 6 wins would be tough, so why not go ahead and get another winnable game?

I thought the sunbelt has a rule against 2 fcs opponents? I know only 1 counts towards bowl eligibility and I know SBC schools are not allowed to travel to fcs but I thought I remembered a limit of 1 fcs per schedule... I could be mistaken

Even though either of our teams would get curb stomped, I'd really like to go to Autzen.

RE: Question for GSU, Troy & USA Fans
Seems like it was Ohio State or Va Tech that had scheduled 2 FCS games in one year, so it has been do before by much bigger programs then any of ours. I would assume the reason for them was the same reason one of us may have two, due to someone dropping out of a contract late.

If one of us were force to schedule a second FCS team due to UAB dropping football we could petition the NCAA for a waiver if we get to 6 wins with 2 of those wins being over FCS.

I believe it's a conference rule, ohio state and vatech don't deal with the perception problem that we deal with

The B1G has now gone to a no FCS rule, with that there may be some openings against B1G schools who need to drop an FCS off their current schedule.

It was a game scheduled by the previous administration. It makes zero sense to fly 3000 miles to get blasted by 60 points in a track meet and spend a third of your guarantee on expenses.

These are the schools with openings in 2015:

Boston College
Miami
ECU
SMU
Tulane
Central Florida
FIU
Louisiana Tech
Rice
Southern Miss
Bowling Green
Western Michigan
Tennessee (at Nashville)
Air Force
San Diego State
UNLV

A lot of closer more competitive games on that list than Oregon.
