At his request, UAB Athletic Director Brian Mackin has been reassigned from his position as athletic director to the newly created position of special assistant for Athletics. In this role, Mackin will be dedicated to assisting student athletes and coaches affected by the discontinuation of programs.

“While Brian has been leading the strategic review process for the Athletic Department, working closely with our consultants to inform and guide their analysis, he does not wish to lead our newly constituted Athletic Department,” Watts said. “I respect his decision and thank him for his 12 years of service. In his new role, Brian has a great opportunity to make this transition easier for the affected athletes and coaches as they work to make the best decisions for their futures.”

My gosh. When you've got some of the most powerful men in the state staring you down, threatening you, and telling you what you must do, there's only so much you can do. Very, very upsetting.

I get the feeling this was #1 on his priority list form the BOTH when he was hired. I highly doubt Mackin wanted this on his watch. He will forever be known as the AD that allowed football to be taken away.

Not too worried about Mackin's watch.

Mackin is a Company Man. He always has been. Gotta stay in the system to get that retirement, right? Also, it would be unseemly to take that new job in the Chancellor's office quite yet.

Since I have no idea what Brian knew, when he knew it, or what he did about it, I'll choose not to condemn him for trying to support his family. (And regardless of what the Aubie's call each other, your family is at home, not at your job.)

And I doubt any of the "insiders" know the details of his dismissal, so I wouldn't put a lot of stock in "what you heard".

b.m bowel movement is guiltier than watts he said this would be the most exciting time in uab athletics. The son of a ***** was stalling and trying to appease as directed. He and watts need to take pbj's member out of their mouths and deep throat a gun. The hell with them all.

This guy should not set foot on campus again either. ever. How can he except this new position. How do people like this live with themselves? He should resign his new position.

Please do share all the "facts" you may have. A lot of people around here think they know something, so it becomes "facts".

For all we know, Brian was working like a dog to save football and when he couldn't, he resigned. If he was part of the evil saboteurs, why wouldn't he stay to lead the new and improved UAB athletic department? Seems he would have gotten that plumb job for pulling the trigger on football, right?

Until I see real proof that Brian lied to Coach and then threw the whole team under the bus, I'm not gonna throw him under the bus.
