I get the impression he's done with football? If so, I don't see this as good news (unless he wasn't showing any potential in football).

The Rice release refers to him as a two sport athlete.

OK, that's good then (assuming this means he's REMAINING a 2-sport athlete).

If he's redshirting this year, and wants to play basketball, probably makes sense to release him for the bowl game and let him pick up football when basketball is done.

Good. Hope it helps our depth. Maybe he can help additionally bring some of Rhoades' attitude back to the FB team next season as well!

BTW, Coach Rhoades posted a great tweet last night...

Well your prognostication may be the better one.

It's hard to know who will emerge as the heir apparent, but Jones does have the athletic credentials.

2015
Stehling JR
German SO
Jones RS FR

Great response. Billups is leaving early and never got on the field. You have to wonder why we don't lose kids to other schools. the degree I guess.

Jones will not play QB. Saw him during spring game and his throwing arm was in a sling. not sure if he recovered from that. Did not see him throw at all this year but then again we haven't seen anyone else throw either. My prediction is that they convert him to receiver. DB would not ever let a future QB go play another sport.

So that time that Stehling threw a touchdown pass to Mayden didn't happen...good to know.
Jones was in a sling due to shoulder surgery, but I agree with you that most likely he will play reciever.

??? Accept he did let Ryan Lewis play baseball. And Lewis was still pretty highly regarded as a future QB (and #3 on the depth chart at the time) when he played for the baseball team his Freshman year as soon as Spring Practice was completed. I don't believe he quite the football team until after his Sophomore season.

Great he threw one pass. What a great way to develop your players. I'm sure Stehling is satisfied with that one throw. Against LA TECH they brought him back in with 2 minutes left and down 76-31. Three handoffs. Great development.
By the way, our best recruit just de-committed. You know why one they see DB offense never using the TE. He sees how young guys have to wait for ever to get on the field. Yes I know we have a few freshman playing...is called necessity not philosophy.

Herndon is a fool if he decommitted because he thinks Rice doesn't use the TEs enough. Cella basically missed the whole season. Roby and Hunt had opportunities early in the year and really struggled catching the ball consistently. Rice very recently produced 3 NFL TEs, just hard to believe that is the reason. If nothing else, it would provide an opportunity for early playing time.

Oh yeah, it is definitely because of all the factors you just listed. Definitely not because he has been offered by both the OKLAHOMA SOONERS AND THE TEXAS LONGHORNS.

And Stanford and Ole Miss, and a host of other P5s. The fact that he was eventually going to decommit has been known for a very long time. Go back and read the recruiting threads. Move along.

I thought Donnelly was the ex-commit with Stanford and Ole Miss offers? Herndon, too?
