Why Neal Brown's Offense Will Probably Rock & Roll
This is a great article. I knew some of this, but the Hal Mumme coaching Tree is just insane. His disciples have all done extremely well (Franklin, Leach, Holgerson) including Neal Brown. He is a direct descendant of the man who popularized the Air Raid Offense. There's much more to this than has outstanding resumes at Troy, Texas Tech, and Kentucky; he has been around the best of the best, and he just may be one of them. Worth a read.

Just an excitement thread and video. Before anyone says I said we will crush the belt, I'm just looking for improvement and I think he can do the job. These posts are reasons for optimism, not a guarantee. Plenty of good teams this league, two of whom have just arrived. If it helps, think not of Troy getting better, but of a SBC team improving the quality of the league. It's good for everyone if he can get Troy back on track.

The air raid is coming.
Not to rain on your parade but we had a Mumme guy and posted the exact same TT vids when we hired Hatcher. He is now at Murray State. In fairness he took over a dumpster fire but could not turn it around and the record got worse every year. You still need the willies and joes to go with the x's and o's and a D.

That video is from when Neal Brown was the OC at TT. He was at Troy as OC in 2008 and 2009 and had Top 25 offenses both years as well as Top 25 offenses all three years as OC at TT in 10, 11, and 12.
Of note, Kenny Edenfield who is being retained had the #20 offense in 2010 while at Troy, and #31 offense in 2013. They'll make a good pair, I'd think. Not many on this board can say they have an OC with either Neal's or Edenfield's resume at the FBS level.

RE: Why Neal Brown's Offense Will Probably Rock & Roll
There was a 3 year study done with Neal brown at Texas tech
He had on average 80 snaps per game... More than anyone else in that three year period... Beating out coaches like Chip Kelly at Oregon. Art Briles at Baylor and chad Morris at Clemson

This video has me VERY excited! You can see Coach Brown do work!

A-State is 9th in plays per game this year with a new QB and a new system. Just wait till next year - all the skill players and hopefully all the coaches will be back. Only losing 2 OL on offense and a blocking TE.

You guys should be strong. I was impressed at times. Hoping Troy can have a similar showing.
Ready to see Troy get things rolling again next year (since we don't play!).
Do you think recruiting fell off under Blakeney? I'm still perplexed at the drop off.

I think he got a little relaxed at it... Also recruiting really seemed to take a drop after Neal Brown left.
Not to mention everyone else stepped up in recruiting.

Losing your APR exemption didn't help, kind of levels things when you have to worry about recruiting guys who can pass school.

That has been proved false 9,000,000,000 times on this board by several well respected posters. It was Ricky Bustle making excuses for why he couldn't win games. Why he couldn't win games is also why he is not employed by Lousiana Athletics at this time.
Arkansas State state also had the very same "exemption" and so far, not having it hasn't hurt them. The fact that no one mentions Arkansas State and only Troy regarding APR is a clear indication that the narrative is false, and that excuses were flying high on why you guys couldn't beat Troy.
The APR exemptions did nothing to help or hurt schools like Arkansas State, ULM, and Troy. If it were a decided advantage, ULM and Arkansas State would have shared some of those five titles with Troy. They did not. And really that's all there is too it; hurt feelings and eight boxes of tissues spread among our conference mates during that time frame. It's 2014, whine about something else.

RE: Why Neal Brown's Offense Will Probably Rock & Roll
I have no doubt Troy will be much improved next year. In the game in Statesboro this year basically your offense just couldn't do anything. After a while the defense wears down in a game like that.

First off, if you think I'm gonna defend Ricky Bustle, you are mistaken. He couldn't win because he was a clown. Just because stAte and ULM had the same exemption doesn't mean they roll the same risks that Troy took. There are also different admission standards for every school. There were plenty of years that Troy would "sign" more than 25 guys and if those at risk players didn't make it... Oh well. I guess it's all just coincidental that Troy was no longer Troy shortly after the Apr exemption was removed. You aren't bringing in the same level of talent, especially on defense. Where are all those 2nd chance guys? The stud transfers? Why can you no longer bring those kind of guys in? Because you now have to worry about APR. Ask ULM how losing that APR exemption effected their basketball team.

I think Brown might be more willing to go down field that Hatcher but I'm sure we'll get a good dose of bubble and tunnel screens.
