Buffalo coaching hire
Buffalo made a great hire with Lance Leipold... Problem is they may have to hire another coach in 3-4 years when the big boys come calling

RE: Buffalo coaching hire
Dude has killed it at D3 but to say in 3-4 years he will have a big boy job is questionable.

He's never recruited at this level, isn't going into a great situation of talent or facilities, and his offense is pro style which may need to be adjusted to have more success in scoring a lot in this conference.

Not saying he won't be successful, but years one and two will be a big adjustment for a guy that's never recruited for scholarships and especially at a program without sustained success. 3-4 years for a major job is a big time stretch.

"Leipold, 50, has won five NCAA Division III national championships in his eight seasons at Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he has a career record of 106-6. Division III does not award athletic scholarships. Leipold last month became the fastest coach in NCAA history across all divisions to reach 100 wins."

If the big boys aren't calling it means you're losing.

Leipold is a guy i could never figure out how he stayed at Whitewater for as long as he did. He was on my short list for NIU HC. And yeah DIII to FBS is a heckuva jump, but with the way he wins, esp with non-scholarship athletes, you've gotta know he's doing something right.

How old do you think 50 is? Age isn't an issue.

For the record Bennett came to Wisconsin after several successful seasons at Division 1 UWGB, and Ryan came to Wisconsin after having success at Divion 1 UW Milwaukee.

moreover, basketball is a completely different beast when it comes to the NCAA.

RE: Buffalo coaching hire
Leipold has coached at div 1 level(under solid at Nebraska) and at Nebraska at Omaha for a few years.. So he has div 1 experience and let's be honest it's the MAC not the SEC

I think this will work out for Buffalo. Though they really need to work on facilities.

But I also thought English would improve EMU. So yeah...

UWW has a strong Athletics tradition across all sports. He is not going to Buffalo from a football vacuum.

Surprising comments about the hire.."recruit Chicago hard" and the Wisconsin background that is direct ZEROING in on NIU. Surprised to see Buffalo wants to attack NIU from the shores of Lake Erie.
