any port in a storm, right?
uab football probably means revenue for Birmingham. Certainly, a viable uab athletic program means something to b'ham. so, if uat gets its way, the city of Birmingham suffers.
cool. Instant allies.
Pit the city council against the evil bastards on the board of trustees. it can only help.

That's already in play but the people behind this don't care. At least not yet. UAB supporters and the CoB need to make them regret this move by every means necessary. If they're doing this to "save money", show them they miscalculated.

I've seriously debated alternate driving routes home or just planning on avoiding food and gas when driving through Alabama (let alone visiting).
Quote:"They come to us often to do some of the things they need to do, such as changing street right-of-ways for events and other efforts," Austin added. "They need us to allow them to do these things, so as strategic partners it is important to have these conversation ahead of making any major decision that may impact the city."
If Birmingham city will stand with us and is ready to scorch the ground Watts stands on, I'll stop by for a beer and BBQ. They know that Football is just the beginning of the deluge.

The city council knows UAB needs them. You don't have a major urban campus without cooperation of the city. It's an olive branch and a warning

Yes they're completely on board. Large UAB contingent at the last city council meeting.

I sent an email to the trustees and cc'd the city councill members and jefferson county legislators stating that if tuscaloosa and the current UAB president won't work with Birmingham then Birmingham should not work with the ua system and shouldn't work with UAB until Watts is gone. No freebies, not hand outs, permits may take longer and harder to get approved. Businesses won't give discounts or special deals for UAB as they have before. NO support of ua events in Birmingham.
But that's just me. People in Tuscaloosa should not have total control of things in Birmingham and Jefferson county.

"Let's see, you want to tear up a city street to run a steam line? Well, we've got these 9 billion forms you're going to need to fill out, by hand, with different colored ink, and Barbara, our permit permitter will deal with it when she gets back from her sabbatical in Tibet. We expect her to return in the spring of '17."

So does this mean the city's going to "bounce" the SEC out of their headquarters building that they're paying a whopping $1 a year for rent? But, actually, if ever there was a time for a true show of civic solidarity, this is it, I'm for whatever the city thinks it can do to make them pay somehow for killing our football program without just cause for doing so...

I think all that does is alienate SEC fans who at this point either are lukewarm supporters or are not involved until you mess with the SEC.
