Yeah forgot about the A Sun. Can't wait to start a new rivalry with Dunk Coast and Stetson. Ridiculous.

I'm not even sure they want us to stay D1. Now that Mackin is bought off, there is no buffer. The President can act free and clear, lilke Portera did at UAH when hockey was killed.

MB, what do you think will happen to basketball if all of this goes down the way it seems to be?

Yeah, if we were to be booted, it would be July 1. So, all winter/spring sports would have one more year in CUSA.

Me, too, but anything I can do within reason to make what they've done hurt them in some way, I can and will...Believe that!

I don't know. I don't necessarily see the doomsday that others do because I went to UAB when football didn't exist. We might drop down in conference (although a one bid conference is a one bid conference, and that is what CUSA is).
Based on our recent records, dominating a lower conference and getting auto bids might be good. Or we could land on our feet in a better basketball only conference.
Before, I get blasted, no one knows the future. No one thought a month ago that this would happen, so no one knows where this all is headed for basketball.
I hope nothing happens but budget cuts. But if football does die. We might -a million to one shot- but MIGHT could become Witchia State. Again who knows what the future holds

I will support UAB regardless of conference. I only hope we are in a conference where fans cares about basketball, which for the most part, CUSA isn't.

We could do MUCH worse than the Atlantic 10 - all basketball and an UPGRADE from C-USA hoops...current A-10 programs listed below:
Davidson
Dayton
St. Bon
UMass
La Salle
Rhode Island
Saint Louis
VCU
Duquesne
Geo. Wash
Saint Joes
Richmond
George Mason
Fordham

Our recruiting profile will drop as well. It will be much harder to recruit the HaHa's, the Sullivan's and so on if that happens. This thing is mother cluster of all clusters. Before we Gene Bartow a well respected top 10 coach at the time he came to UAB....we dont have that now.

With the rest of us gone, they will need your constant attendance at the the games and all of the money you contribute to the UAB athletic program every year more than ever. However, no one will give a rip about your glorious store of UAB basketball history.

RE: What happens to UAB hoops if we are shut down - do we lose C-USA membership...
If we lost football and basketball ended up in the MVC or A-10 and there was an emphasis made on making UAB a "basketball school" like it was back in the day, I'd be ok with all of this (I know that's not a popular opinion.) However I fear that is not what will happen. We will likely end up in an even worse basketball conference than what the current CUSA is and the program will further descend into total obscurity.

Have you noticed where all of those universities are located? Ask yourself, does it make good walking around sense to add a 15th school like UAB in the deep South? If UAB is lucky they will be admitted to the Sun Belt, but the new Sun Belt is not nearly as prestigious as the Sun Belt to which UAB once belonged.
