No, they can play immediately after figuring out a new system and new coaching staff and try to bond with a new team and after they figure out how to get their stuff there and find out where to live and their way around a new town and start over from scratch clawing their way up the depth chart and establish relationships with new professors and go through all the transfer paperwork for athletics and the transfer paper work for academics....and say goodbye to college friends and make all new ones.

Easy peasy.

And here I thought it'd be a process. Shows what I know.

Say they ought to not pay that, and instead honor the scholarships they offered those kids.

Alternately, they could pay what they owe via contract AND honor the scholarships of those kids......which is also a contracted issue.

You mean exactly like most junior college guys do? They have a month to get enrolled before January, and have an entire spring of football. We have freshman that do it as early graduates. Some jucos don't get on the team until summer and find a way to start or make an impact. It's football, they aren't leaning to fly a space shuttle.

That's actually the best part about them shutting down now and not waiting until January, after a possible bowl game. Gives the players an actual chance to transfer for winter semester and start with a new team in the spring.

I know this is about college football, but I was more concerned with them getting to continue to play on a scholarship, so they wouldn't have to foot the bill of an education they were promised.

Scholarships are always a one year deal.

That's a very good point, but when you sign with a school there's a reasonable expectation that if you perform in the classroom and stay out of trouble, your scholarship will be there for you through your eligibility.

You certainly don't expect you and all your teammates to lose your scholarships on the same day.

I'd expect there aren't a ton of players with remaining eligibility that won't try to play elsewhere and I'd imagine the majority of the players that would to finish out at UAB have 1-3 semesters left. I'd imagine by the 2016/17 academic year we're talking a dozen or less scholarships.
