Exclamation Yahoo Sports winners and losers
Rice did make some national football headlines lists with yesterday's game:

Here are the rest of the winners and losers from Week 15:
LOSERS
Rice: You can always expect to end up here if you give up 76 points to Louisiana Tech in a game to decide the division champion, especially if you can’t even muster half as many points in a 76-31 loss. That’s a poor attempt at showing up in a big game. It was just 28-17 at halftime, but the Bulldogs ripped off 41 straight points during one stretch of the second half to bury the Owls. Louisiana Tech out-gained Rice 677-371 in total yards in the rout, setting up a first-to-50 Conference USA title game against Marshall on Dec. 6 which remains immensely intriguing despite the Thundering Herd’s stunning overtime loss to Western Kentucky.

Just to give this a little context:

Wisconsin beat Nebraska 70-31 a couple of years ago, and I know a number of Nebraska fans that will never, ever recover from that loss mentally.

Are we Nebraska? Obviously not. However, it is very telling that we have many fans who seem to be taking this absolute massacre in stride.

I'm done. I hope for the best for Rice football going forward. This is a tough sport, but our players deserve better.

What would be the appropriate reaction to fans who have absolutely no way to affect any sort of change in the program? I carry probably less than no sway with the program, so is it somehow better to scream out loud about how much I want a new coach and how our whole coaching staff should be canned and shipped off to Timbuktu? Would that somehow get the program moving in the right direction? Or somehow help with the situation? Would that be showing more support for our players somehow? Because I don't think it would.

I'd much rather continue to support the football team publicly and through the Owl Club and ticket sales, discuss with other fans the good, the bad, and the ugly of the entire program, and try to at least keep some sense of positivity so that I don't spiral down a hole that ends with me no longer supporting our student athletes.

I think everyone here is disappointed with the result today, and everyone recognizes that there were failures in all phases of the game and football hierarchy, but just because some people handle the results in a way different than you do, doesn't really mean much, IMO. Unless something changes and someone ponies up the money, Bailiff will be here next year, after leading us to three straight bowls (regardless of the circumstances), so it seems like an exercise in futility to keep banging that drum. But that's just my opinion, just like yours is yours, and I'm trying to give a bit of insight into how taking it in stride works.

Nebraska just fired head coach Bo Pelini. He was 67-27 in seven seasons as Nebraska's coach.

And the only coach not named Saban to have won at least 9 games in each of the past 3 years.

If somebody did hire Bailiff away, he'd be at or near the top of my list for the next hire. And with 3 bowls in 3 years, we might just be able to convince him to do a Solich.

That's one thing people aren't realizing, and one reason I'm fine with keeping Bailiff for now. He's turning this into a MUCH more attractive job that it was when we hired Todd or David. We could probably get a Pelini or somebody like that if we could reach a deal on money. Every year we go to a bowl, the potential candidate pool to replace him gets better. That's also why I'd let him go if he got an offer.
