Per, this

Interesting Chad decided to take this gig. Not sure what to expect from his rein.

RE: OT: Clemson OC Chad Morris to coach SMU
Over on the main (conference) board, some have anointed Morris and SMU as "The Beast." I think that's a tad over-optimistic. SMU is really, really, really bad...which means that any Coach would have to basically start from scratch (meaning a likely 2-3 years minimum rebuilding) and Morris is...while definitely the flavor of the month...a first time and unproven FBS head coach. Remember when Will Muschamp was the "Flavor of the Month"?

SMU is approaching this like they approach everything... Throw money at it. Time will tell if this is a good move, and...just as importantly...how long Morris actually stays at SMU if he does have some success.

BTW, has anyone else heard the rumor that Kansas has been in serious talks with Justin Fuente?

They are awful, but they won 5 last year and 7 the year before. The total collapse this year is a result of coaching turmoil more than it is personnel. I think a good coach can come in next year and win 3 - 4 games, then build on that quickly.

While we're at it, neal Brown, OC at UK, is rumored to be the hc at Troy. Wonder if we might be able to shake some UK recruit a loose

I would expect Fuente to be gone somewhere in the next couple weeks.

A few UK posters seem to think they will go after Gran.

I don't see Gran leaving for an OC position. He will be here until he gets a head coaching gig.

Not as much as he would probably make at UK. The thing is, he wants to be a head coach. He can come back here for another year with a very strong offense coming back and have his name be a candidate for several jobs, or he could go to UK and put an average offense on the field every week. I think taking a lesser salary for a year would be worth it if he ends up getting the head coaching gig he really wants.

I read the statement differently:
"A few UK posters seem to think they [TROY STATE] will go after Gran."

There have been persistent rumors of Gran to Troy State since their coach announced his retirement.

Yes, with him being a head coach not an assistant

Jerry, I meant UK posters believe UK will go after Gran. They seem to think Brown to Troy as HC is a done deal and that Gran will be a top candidate to replace Brown as OC. Even one of their mods suggested this on their Scout site. I tend to agree with sub, though.

Gran did interview for Troy State, but it came out yesterday that they had gone with Brown. Now UK fans are thinking they will go after Gran to replace Brown.

Morris is a home run hire.

Gran must have more recent interviewing experience than any guy in the game. Love to see a list of the jobs he has thrown his hat in the ring for since he got to Clifton Heights last year.

Wasn't he the best man in TT's wedding? Not worried about him leaving for another OC job...
