???

Godfrey pulled down 6 boards in 14 minutes. That's exactly what he's on the roster to do, nothing more nothing less.

Yeah. This team as a whole needs to play a ton of zone. but we all know they won't.

Ya, not every guy on the roster is supposed to be a 20 and 10 guy. Some guys, like Godfrey, were brought here to be role players and nothing more...

That looks like a starting lineup that TC would come up with 2 days into a 5 day paint huffing bender.

Good question. It's just more of the head scratching subbing that Josh does and has done for four years now 03-banghead

On the bench where they belong until they improve.

How can they improve on the bench?

While I agree...Someone needs to inform Godfrey of his role

RE: Pookie and Hawkins?
I've always wondered where Hawkins will fit into this roster once the rotation is set. Does the opposition play a bigger, heavier 4? Godfrey would get the nod to backup Shaq in that instance.

Does the opposition run a guard at the 3? Well, then Burrell and Woodson spell Nick King in that instance.

Maybe Hawkins will get more time at the 3 if opponents run a true, big 3 man. Who knows?

Pookie... Pookie is better on both sides of the ball than Johnson right now. Much better on the defensive end. Will Johnson be better later this season once he gets his legs back? Probably. But I think you have to play both, and play them equally.

Markel has done well at the 1 by simply not turning the ball over. But he doesn't create opportunities for his teammates in that position. I hope he's merely a place holder at the 1 while Kedren/Pookie are getting up to speed.

I just have the sneaking suspicion that playing either Johnson or Pookie 2 minutes per game or less based on a few early possessions is going to do more harm than good. They are clearly your point guards; let them play. Especially against a bad team like Indiana State.

That works. Problem is pastner will never stick with and develop that lineup and those young players. As I, and others, pointed out Pastner should apply the Paxton Lynch theory to Pookie at minimum. Take your lumps, which you're gonna take anyway, and let the young guys figure things out. Pastner simply doesn't know how that works though.

I'd go with this, but switch out King for Burrell, and make Burrell the first off the bench.

Easterwood... you da man, but... I'm somewhat on the fence with Pookie. I'm not seeing yet what some are... I think Markel is looking good on both ends and we need Woodson's scoring badly. Either way, plenty of minutes for Pookie, Markel and Woodson.

The way that I think about it: Pookie is the only real PG out of that group. The others are just shooting guards bringing the ball up court and trying not to turn it over.

Right now, this is the way that our Assist% (% of a player's possessions end in an assisted basket by that player. Perhaps the best way to tell a player's ability to setup teammates on offense):

1. Pookie- 20.6 (437th out of d1 players playing at least 30% of a team's available minutes).
2. Calvin Godfrey- 13.8 (Unranked/outside top 500).
3. Nick King- 13.7 (Unranked)
4. Trahson Burrell- 13.2 (Unranked)
5. Markel Crawford- 12.1 (Unranked)
6. Avery Woodson- 10.9 (unranked)
7. Shaq Goodwin- 10.7 (unranked)
8. Kedren Johnson- 8.8 (unranked)

Pookie is turning the ball over slightly less than Kedren but slightly more than Markel. He's also forcing steals on the defensive end better than both.

RE: Pookie and Hawkins?
Pookie is talented and is the point guard now and in the future. He's quick, smooth, a strong passer, aggressive, good shooter and quick defender. As far as I'm concerned, Austin, Shaq and Pookie should be in the game at all times unless obviously they need a quick break.

Agreed and that's not even coaching. That's just knowing your personnel.

Josh will never just leave a talented player on the floor for long stretches. They will end up missing a shot or not getting a rebound and out they come. The idea of letting the better players play through their mistakes isn't going to happen. He has a quick trigger on players, basically he has no patience.

Pookie was benched for being aggressive and making a mistake...

JJ was continuously benched for doing the same thing until he essentially settled on being mostly a jump shooter in the 1/2 court. Funny thing is the same play JJ was benched for over and over was the play that won the C-USA championship game, difference is JJ got a foul call.
