Memphis best wins are over a 7-4 UC and 6-5 MTSU. All of the other wins are against FCS or at best 3 win teams. With three losses I think they are a long shot at best! Its Boise or Utah State's to lose. If they should lose the Championship then Northern Illinois probably will be the selection unless some how UCF can win AAC.
And Marshall's best win? Rice? NIU lost to CMU. They're best win? WMU?
I realize your obsessed with Marshall, but that wasn't the point of my post. Anyhow it is nice that you care so much to keep visiting! Now lets compare Memphis to NIU (By the way I am not a MAC fan either):
Memphis 9-3 (Two of these against UCLA and Ole Miss).
Losses:
Houston (7-4).
Wins:
Austin Peay (FCS)
UC (7-4)
MTSU (6-5)
USF (4-8)
SMU (0-12)
Tulane (3-8)
Temple (5-5)
Tulsa (2-9)
UConn (2-9)
NIU (11-2) (One of their Losses to Arkansas)
Losses:
CMU (7-5)
Wins:
Presby (FCS)
Northwestern (P-5 currently 5-6)
UNLV (2-10)
Kent (2-10)
Ohio (6-6)
Toledo (8-4)
WMU (8-4)
Ball State (5-7)
Miami, OH (2-10)
EMU (2-10)
Bowling Green (7-6 assuming they meet in Championship)
While it is not much better they do have a win over a P-5 (which the committee has already shown they like), and four schools who are .500 or better.
Memphis Counters with three wins over teams .500 or better, but no P-5 wins and more losses.
I definitely see your point, but the way it's broken down doesn't account for said conferences and what the committee views on the conferences are.
I'm not saying this is right, but based off what I have seen from the committee this season I think I am close.
An 8-4 Toledo, 8-4 WMU and a 6-6 Ohio are considered very weak because they got most of those wins from within the MAC. Where as Say a USF, Tulane and Tulsa took a lot of losses in the AAC. They view those teams as either on par or better than the teams listed with NIU.
For Example: If Tulsa or Tulane were in the MAC they would also be 8-4 or 6-6 and so on due to the weaker competition overall.
I don't really agree with that, I just think that's where their heads are at right now.
The AAC is technically having a down season. We have new QB's, and players all over the place. Young players starting and playing in key positions etc..
I can say that though because I look at the G-5 on a week to week basis. I know what's going on down here where as a committee member or P-5 school automatically assumes that the MWC or AAC is better. I know personally that the AAC has so many new players and even new coaches that we are technically down. At least for this year.
We can all sit around here and give valid points and have valid discussions because we actually know. I feel they look at 4-5 teams and nothing else really matters. They reward the G-5 teams for playing the P-5, and if you're in close games or win it ends in a better outcome for you. (Opinion on committee).
Memphis for example. If we replace @ Ole Miss and @ UCLA for say Ohio and Ball State. We win those games and we'd be 11-1. It's just they way they look at it. I agree to an extent that if you are a G-5 you gotta play play these P-5 teams to prove yourself. (But, it shouldn't be the only criteria).
That's why I said earlier this was so draining. Week in and week out, we have sat through almost an entire season of not having a G-5 in the CFP. Then they throw 2 in near the end of the season. One of them loses. (Marshall) and if Boise State loses. Who's next? Is there someone who's next and so on. If no one is ranked which champion will they take.
Memphis beat Cincy who is actually 7-3 by the way (41-14 @ Cincy), yet if they win their last 2 games we would be considered Co-Champs and the head to head has no bearing. (AAC rules this season) So if the committee wanted to in that situation they could take Cincy over us with the exact same record even though we have the head to head.
Marshall had a hell of a season ending up 11-1, but due to their schedule 11-1 doesn't matter apparently.
Boise State has 2 losses, but if they lose only coming in at #23 they are more than likely gonna drop out.
NIU beat up on MAC teams who beat up on each other. (Still not proven)
UCF lost to UConn (2-9) 3 weeks ago, and they could finish off with a loss @ ECU. Boom their out.
The biggest problem with all of this is the damn P-5 has screwed us ALL over once again. It's sickening that 5 conferences who represent less than HALF of Division 1 football (Barely) have gotten this much power over us because of the stupid media. Now we're all trying to kill each other for 1 damn slot out of 12. It's disgusting that our leadership even negotiated that crap and walked away with smiles on their damn faces thinking they had won a huge (but we all know a small) victory.
It's sad really..
As I said, I will cheer for whichever team get's the LONE G-5 slot and I feel all the G-5 fans who know what's actually going on will too.
Just for the record though, I am in no way calling any conference weaker than the other. This is just my personal opinion on what the committee has established. I don't think it's right, I don't think any of this garbage we all have to deal with is right.
They need us, just as much as we need them. We gotta get back to the negotiating table with competent representation and start this crap over.
