My take after watching Tigers and CBB for over 40 years
I'm a diehard Tiger and college BB fan in general. Love the sport. What I saw last night was disgusting even in first half. Just for the record, I no longer think Josh is the right coach for our program for various reasons I will not list.
But, as I read through these threads, everyone seems to think coaching is our only problem. It is a problem but not the main problem so far this season. Josh has not recruited Memphis level players with respect to talent and athleticism. Who among this years team (other than Shaq and Austin) would play more that minor minutes on last years team that most of you bashed all season long?
The lack of talent, BB skills/IQ and athleticism to a lesser degree has been very evident this year and that's on Josh. We have two players that would start or play good minutes for a good team and that's it.
We have below average coaching and mediocre talent; this will be a long season. There won't be the turnaround we saw with last years team. NOT ENOUGH GOOD PLAYERS and I've addressed the coaching.
The positive is the Lawson's are the real deal- if Shaq and Austin stay and we RECRUIT a very good point guard, we can be very good will these starters this year becoming role players that they are for an elite level program. Don't bash me on that elite level statement. ESPN has us 18th? In modern era.

Good post.
I will only add that the talent is based on poor recruiting. Josh got desperate when he missed on the big recruits. I'm afraid this will become the norm if he doesn't show he can develop high level talent. I can't name one 5 star recruit that improved under his leadership.

Don't be surprised to see Shaq and Austin leave after this season.

I agree on past two years recruiting except Nichols. Five star's improve because they are that good and motivated to begin with. I really question Shaq's motivation among others. Austin is getting fed up with working hard to get open and no one will pass him the ball. However, he needs to stop going so far behind the basket.

Shaq maybe if he can graduate. Austin is not going to sit a year. Just have to find someone to get him the ball in right position.

We need a PG in the worst way. Chiozza has been brought up as to why we didn't get him. Not the best entry passer at 5'5". True height. Need to recruit one.

I would love for the Tigers to get a true PG. Some kid that can handle the ball, break a press and make assists. That is a valuable member of any team. Maybe score a little bit.

why would anyone think shaq and austin are good enough to get drafted at this point? THey are both good college players, but neither has developed into any type of NBA prospect. JMO

I think Pookie is that guy but you've got to stick with him. Look at Andre Turner. Same issues and similar qualities. He was referred to as "Andre Turnover" by some as a freshman. Kirk stuck with him and used it to motivate the kid. Told him he would be a great point guard by the time he left and he was. That's what good coaches recognize in players and how good coaches get the most out of their players.

Didn't say either would be drafted. Shaq won't play in the NBA. Austin, maybe, be he has a loooonnng way to go.

Neither would get a guaranteed 2 cd rd contract similar to Barton, Stokes, etc. that's not an option.

Oh man. Don't even go there. Not even close. You know when Andre played no one went to NBA early. Pookie couldn't even handle a little pressure from slow guards at ISU.

Lol Chiozza is listed at 6'0.

That's a huge stretch there.
