It isn't just this game. Injuries have hurt auburn this year but the defense has been atrocious for 2 years

Longer than that. At least 3 years, and even the national championship team wasn't great defensively.

I don't think the NC team was even good defensively. They had Nick Fairley, and they did well against Oregon in the NC game, but that's about it. If Malzahn can put together an average defense, they should be in the playoff hunt every year.

BTW, Auburn just did fire their defensive coordinator. Just announced over ESPN.

Wonder if Pelini could end up there. Now seeing Muschamp mentioned as well. Auburn could pay for people like that.

I probably like Pelini slightly better as a coach, but Muschamp would have far better recruiting connections in Auburn's primary footprint.

Can't imagine Pelini ending up anywhere but a head coaching gig. Petty much any program would kill for that record.

Has Kansas announced a replacement?

Oh I just meant with Ellis Johnson for the last 2 years. I agree I haven't been happy with an Auburn defense since 2005 or so. I think Muschamp at Auburn would be perfect considering what he did there before. You have to imagine Kirby Smart goes somewhere finally so Bama and Auburn might be looking for DCs.

ND is far from the team we thought they were when we opened the season. USC straight up bludgeoned them.

We watch a lot of ND games in my household (wife's an ND fan), and still cannot figure out how that defense fell apart like it did. Yes, they lost their MLB to a season ending injury mid-season (he calls the alignments), but it's really hard to explain what happened since the FSU game defensively (though the cracks were starting show with that result against a bad UNC team).

Turnovers don't help, which got Golson benched finally, but that defense couldn't stop anyone in the end. And injuries don't explain that much.

I wasn't impressed with their defense when we played at South Bend. Their secondary left a lot of holes that we couldn't--or didn't--take advantage of.
