I really think we're going to have to play small this year. But I do want to see them give Davis a chance too. We've signed some good ones for next year, but no big guys either. So we may have to play small for awhile yet.

But Gearhart has really elevated his game this year. Perhaps Drone or Pollard is ready to contribute by next year. I just don't know how much we'll get from them this year against many teams.

Actually, Tiki, so far I'm happy. Mercer is not a bad team and we are hanging with them. Our centers are not as athletic, yet.

Mercer has 18 rebounds, only 10 for Rice.

We are taking a beating on the boards though there have been 2 possessions where Mercer had 3 rebounds on the play. Other problem is we can' get to the line. We have taken 2 shots while Mercer is 11 for 15. Someone tell the Zebras we aren't playing UT.

That was actually an amazing dunk by Rivers after the buzzer.

Down by 5 at the half. Good job but tough when Mercer gets to sit in a lawn chair at the line. Also we got a little tired and missed a few shots. The moving screen is apparently the "highlighted call of the night".

+1 Keep waiting for him to break out. So far of the freshmen Mency has been the standout.

18 to 2 free throws at the break. I realize that will be an issue with our style of play but that's a little much. Hopefully the coaches inform the refs of that stat and it evens out a bit in the second half.

Most of those came after the 10 minute mark and really disrupted our defense.

Remember Morris Almond was an Atlanta-area player as well, like Rivers. NIf he turns out like that, it'd be pretty good, no?

If UAB drops out of CUSA and they get GA State to replace them, it would help Rice a LOT to get a better pipeline to some better players in all sports.

I've got no issue with the refs on the foul disparity. A few calls I disagree with, but they are much cleaner than us down low. Good energy all around.

Pollard is not quite ready for prime time, but Drone will be fine against anyone he has size on. Unfortunately, that's not today.

Guercy and Gearhart both looking very solid. Mo's dunk at the end was pretty sweet. Shame it didn't count.

Wasn't aware it was quite that big a disparity. Nature of the beast, I guess. I still like this offense and coaching style better than Braun's or WTWs.
