Just wanted to wish all my new Sun Belt friends a Happy Thanksgiving. I have much to be thankful for. Our family is neither rich nor poor, but the Good Lord has blessed us immensely.

On the fun side of life I'm thankful He allowed me to live long enough to see something I've been waiting 32 years for. The return of Mountaineer Football to 1-A / FBS. It's been a long journey filled with naysayers and stumbling blocks. But a small group of alumni never gave up on this dream. We pushed and shoved until we got the right people to understand why the move was necessary. The perseverance paid off and I couldn't be more pleased. I'm proud Appalachian State University is a member in the Sun Belt.

This has been a great year for Appalachian. We made it back to FBS, watched the football staff and young players make an incredible turnaround to legitimize the move. Got rid of a men's basketball coach who devastated the program. Fired a women's basketball coach who was a disgrace to the university. Saw an AD who destroyed the moral of our athletic department and spent the program into a crisis situation leave under pressure. Most importantly we hired a chancellor who understands how important football is to Appalachian folks.

Yes, App fans have a LOT to be thankful for!
