The Five in Five
On Saturday AState will graduate 10 5th year seniors who have had a different head coach in every season they have played at the school.
Since 2011 the 10 players have seen Five different head coaches, two different interim head coaches, 4 different defensive and offensive coordinators, 4 strength coaches, 3 equipment managers and 27 different assistant coaches. In that time period, they have won 34 games, which will make them finish as one of the winningest senior classes in the history of Arkansas State football.
The Five have been at the program so long, the only current employees of the football team who have been at the school for longer than these players are the head athletic trainer, and one of the administrative assistants to the head coach.
The 10:
Brock Barnhill DB: Mountain Home, AR. Walked on, earned a scholarship this season. Plays Special Teams.
William Boyd WR: Cave City, AR. Walk-On Played 11 career games.
Tyler Grieve C: Jonesboro, AR Has started 11 career games, all this season
Frankie Jackson: DB: Baton Rouge, LA Team Captain. 59 career tackles, and 909 career rushing yards.
Ryan Jacobs: DB Evans, GA Special Teams Contributor
Qushawn Lee: LB Prattville, AL Fifth on school's career tackles list. Recently named to All Centennial Team.
Kenny Rains: TE: Hot Springs, AR Started Seven games. Caught first TD pass this season
Andrew Tryon: DB: Russelville, AR 23 career starts, 18 pass breakups
Alan Wright: OL: Cave City, AR 20 career starts
Sterling Young: DB Hoover, AL 44 career starts. Team leader.
No matter how this season finishes, these players will be well remembered by our fans, and will likely get some kind of special recognition from the school down the road. At any point they could have left, but they stayed the course.
Note: The class started with 11 players, but DL Markel Owens was murdered this past January when he attempted to protect his mother during a home invasion.
