Liberty head coach Turner Gill said that Vad "sent his [transfer] release" to Liberty, expressing at least some interest in possibly transferring to LU. according to Gill, they were satisfied with their current QB situation and "didn't entertain" the idea. interesting. while i wouldn't expect him to say anything else, this was brought up by Gill unprompted... no one asked him about this. part of his opening "monologue", if you will.
he also mentioned 4 keys to beating JMU:
1. play well early, mentioned JMU's explosiveness on offense
2. win the turnover battle
3. tackle well, especially against Vad who is very elusive
4. hold JMU to 64 or fewer plays
i found this last point FASCINATING, considering
we're averaging 82 plays/game. unless my math is wrong, the fewest plays we've run in a game was 69 (excludes punts and FG's... and Blaine Stewart's "spike" on the FG) against Albany. that's an ambitious number for Liberty considering it would be a season low and WELL below our average. we ran 74 against Stony Brook's excellent defense if that gives you an idea.
a reporter also alluded to a tendency for LU opponents punting rugby-style line drives. i took this to mean these opponents have had success doing so. will we follow suit?
