The former successful Arkansas Tech coach
Doc, I got this info from Karl B, the Trojan fan who lives in Russellville, and who also is a Tech fan. You were trying to think of the coaches name at Tech several years ago when they were very successful, and I thought that he left for a job at his alma mater somewhere. He said that the coach that was Mark Downey, and he is now an assistant at Bowling Green. He said they consistently drew 2,500 fans at Tech and several times sold out(4,000 seats)the Tucker Coliseum.

Interesting he's an assistant coach again. He obviously didn't have as much success as a head coach wherever he left Tech for or he'd still be a head coach. It's interesting how a coach can do so well at one place, and he never has that success again when he leaves that situation. Mike Newell is the perfect example. Jury is still out on Porter.

He may have left Tech for an assistant's job in D-1. I assume Karl B could answer that.

Mark left Tech to go back to his alma mater University of Charleston as Head Coach. It was going home for him. He wants to be a D1 head coach so now that he has 2 successful head coaching stints at D2 it's back to top D1 assistant and wait for a break. He was an assistant at UNO with Monte Towe. He is currently at Bowling Green in the MAC.I have complete confidence he will be a strong D1 coach if givin the opportunity.

Are you referring to the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC? I don't recall him being the head coach there.

Looked him up. University of Charleston, West Virginia I presume since he played high school ball in West Virginia.
