Ok... someone explain how the rosters work up there. There are ... ahem... 561 players on their national/international roster.

Oops.... that's the whole league. I thought Policiious linked the Hamilton roster.

For any of you wondering what other NIU alum are also playing in the Canadian league the only other is Chris Smith http://www.cfl.ca/roster/show?id=7147.

Does this mean Lynch isn't even good enough to make a cfl team?

Nah. I just don't think he wants to play anywhere but the NFL. From conversations I've had he hasn't given the CFL any thought.

There are probably a bunch of former NIU players that could play in the CFL. I wonder why we don't see more on rosters. They can't ALL have better career prospects... or maybe they do.

Afraid he will never play in the nfl. When he got cut nobody was interested.

Sat next to Courtney at the MACC. Great kid! He let me put on his OB ring. For some reason he got put into the doghouse the last couple of years here? I thought he was better than Stone when he got in.

If I remember right, he was Canadian. Playing in the CFL would be very cool for being a home town kid. I think they were in the grey cup last year as well. He said he was playing quite a bit. More than at Northern.

While the league average is 80K the CFL rookie min is 50K; not great $ but a hell of alot better than what 95% of college grads make their first year and of course these guys have $0 student debt to pay off unlike most of their fellow grads.

http://www.cfl.ca/article/canadian-footb...to-players

http://cfldb.ca/faq/players/

CFL teams cannot practice more than 4.5 hours a day and that includes team meeting time so these players do have time for a 2nd career should they choose to have on. NFL players do not have anywhere near that much time for their personal lives.

CFL training camp lasts no longer than 4 weeks prior to the opening game while the NFL is pretty much an almost year round job.

Edmonton Eskimos holds/did hold Lynch's player rights to CFL. Not sure how those deals exactly work.
FWIW, I do stats work for Jaguar home games and preseason games are filled with tons of CFL scouts. Few that I talked to were basically salivating at the mouth when talking about him playing QB up there.

No the seasons overlap so after committing to an NFL season it's very hard to jump ship. Likewise, the number of international players per team is limited. So if all of the slots are occupied by current team veterans they need to be beat out. Which isn't hard but coming In mid season isn't exactly easy

Here you go: http://www.cfl.ca/schedule/year/2014/time_zone/0
The CFL season starts in June, before the NFL training camps open.

And here's my backup on international versus national ratio:
