Me looking at it -- Marshall has dominated most their games. Now, if the end their last two games LIMPING to wins -- and Boise Storming Thru wins -- I'd want to see Boise.

Of course, if Marshall loses to LA-Tech, and Boise loses to San Diego State or Fresno who are struggling to be .500+ ---> Look Out. If NIU were to (don't count on it) beat WMU and beat BGSU in Detroit -- they'd very possibly be going to the Access Bowl.

All that requires at least a few planets to align... but is theoretically possible.

Amazingly enough NIU needed more than this to happen the day after the 2012 MACC for the team to get the Orange Bowl spot.

If Marshall gets in with their schedule then why should G5 schools continue to schedule high-major teams when they can just play a bunch of scrubs and go undefeated or 11-1 and get into one of the big games?

Marshall should be thanking Louisville for backing out. Louisville would likely beat them.

#1. MONEY. Having P5 games will bring in money to keep coaches there longer, better assistants, etc. It's a big deal.

#2. MOST YEARS it will backfire. This is a down season for G5s. If Chris Peterson for Boise was still there -- Boise would be a 1-loss team right now and would beat Marshall for it. Just that alone would keep Marshall out.

#3. YOU ALSO NEED TO DOMINATE MOST YOUR GAMES. Marshall's done that. See, if you purposely have a weak OOC schedule, you have to DOMINATE. Very few games can be close or within striking distance.

#4. YOU CAN'T HELP YOUR CONFERENCE SoS: Meaning, you still do what ya gotta do in your Conference, which may be stronger (or weaker) than expected. No team can say "Oh yeah, we'll go undefeated with this uber-weak schedule" -- Yeah, one loss? You're out. Too many non-dominant games? You're out. A 1-loss team only loses to some big power and has a stronger SoS? You're out.

Best way is to not schedule a D1AA, play lower-tier P5s + good G5s. If you can stomp your way thru a light schedule consistently, you can win those anyway and you'll have less exceptions against ya. That's my view.

Maybe that is what the P5 teams want...so the separation can be even more so.

It wasn't just what happened the last week of the season, it was what happened over the course of the last month or so of the season. Everything that had to happen, did happen, including Toledo and Kent beating ranked teams before they played us, which pushed them into the Top 25 at various points that season, and helped us pick up more support.

Regardless of who makes it, they need to win. Win or the talk will start that the access bowl shouldn't be allowed. Also, need good TV ratings. School with best chance of winning and best TV ratings would be Boise. NIU would probably have best TV ratings, but no chance of winning.....this year at least.

A $18-20 million payout for one of the big games is far more than you will receive for playing two high-majors on the road. Even after it is divided up into conference shares.

If NIU, Toledo, or WMU had Marshall's schedule i wouldn't be surprised to see all three undefeated or one loss at most.

Looks like the CFP has Boise St. ranked above Marshall. Making a statement.

Marshall's final reg season opponent is WKU who beat the heck out of BGSU in their opening game 59-31 and BGSU will be NIU's opponent in the MAC title game if NIU goes so no NIU has nothing to complain about

Discuss....

I happily took the Orange bowl even though I knew there were better teams out their than us that didn't get to go. I never argued that we were better because we had a better record.

So yes, I believe I can. Others... not so much.

You can't give Marshall a hard time about conference schedule, but you 100% can give them a hard time about non conference.

They had a game scheduled and it didn't pan out, you should at least try your hardest to get 1 if not more P5 games a year. When was the last time NIU didn't have at least two?

I think Marshall is a good team, but you still like to see them challenge themselves. Also, C-USA is horrible. They have like 5-6 teams that haven't been FBS more than 5 years. It's virtually a FCS conference.

CUSA went 16-4 vs the peer G5 conferences this year... The MAC went 4-10
