Re: Updated Standings
Saturday Results

Georgetown 76 - Marquette 58
-Impressive effort by the Hoyas to pull away late in the battle for 2nd place.

Villanova 78 - Seton Hall 69
-I didn't see this game but Nova was up 16 at the half. The Pirates cut it to a 4 point lead with 2:30 left but didn't score again. SH only dressed 9 guys after a backup center left the team earlier in the week. In what could have been a crazy situation, after 4 Pirates fouled out not only did SH finish the game with no subs, two players on the floor had 4 personals. If either one had fouled at the end SH would have ended the game playing 5 on 4.

Louisville 83 - South Florida 63
-What can I say, UofL absolutely crushed USF for the 2nd time this season. It was 49-19 at the half and UofL was bringing kids out of the stands with 8 minutes left in the game. The Cards did actually play 16 people, with 12 scoring.

Rutgers 73 - Cincinnati 69
-Have to feel for the Bearcats. I watched the 2nd half of this one where they overcame a 10 point halftime deficit to build a 6 point lead with around 2:30 left in the game. I thought, "surely they won't blow it again after the Providence game earlier in the week." Sure enough, they got outscored 12-2 the rest of the way and cemented themselves in last place for good with what I'd call 90% certainty. I thought UC had a chance to finish ahead of a few teams, but not with the way they finish games. USF and RU at least have managed to close out some close ones for victories.

Pitt 74 - Providence 68
-Only caught the last 10 minutes of this one, but it was a good back and forth game that actually had the Friars up 1 at the half. Providence did nothing wrong and played well, but Pitt's veterans just stepped up like you'd expect the top team in the conference to do at home.

WVU 70 - UCLA 65
-Didn't see any of this game, but it was what Beilein ordered to make the tournament. The Eers got their sig. win if they take care of business against the teams they should beat that remain.

Sunday Results

Georgia Tech 65 - UConn 52
-This was ugly down in the ATL. Tech led by 8 at the half and was up 22 with 8 minutes left. It was more of a blowout then the score would indicate. Even after my Cards beat UConn last month, I've continued to assume the freshman would gel and get ready to be in their prime when UofL heads up to Storrs late in the year. Perhaps not, they have talent but just are not a team. I hope they don't decide to bring it together on Feb 25th!

Syracuse 76 - St John's 74
-The Orange managed to pull out this back and forth game and avoid the first season sweep by St John's in what has to be ages. How far back to find that? Maybe the 80's? This was a must win for the Orange's NCAA hopes, which are still hurting at this point I suspect.

BIG EAST STANDINGS
10-1 / 22-3 Pittsburgh
8-2 / 18-5 Georgetown
8-3 / 21-5 Marquette
7-4 / 19-5 West Virginia
7-4 / 17-8 Louisville
6-5 / 18-6 Notre Dame
6-5 / 17-8 Syracuse
5-5 / 17-7 Villanova
5-5 / 15-8 Providence
5-6 / 14-11 DePaul
5-7 / 14-11 St. John's
4-6 / 15-9 Connecticut
3-7 / 12-11 Seton Hall
3-8 / 12-13 South Florida
3-9 / 10-15 Rutgers
1-9 / 10-14 Cincinnati

Monday Results
Louisville 66 - Pitt 53
Georgetown 71 - WVU 53

BIG EAST STANDINGS
10-2 / 22-4 Pittsburgh
9-2 / 19-5 Georgetown
8-3 / 21-5 Marquette
8-4 / 18-8 Louisville
7-5 / 19-6 West Virginia
6-5 / 18-6 Notre Dame
6-5 / 17-8 Syracuse
5-5 / 17-7 Villanova
5-5 / 15-8 Providence
5-6 / 14-11 DePaul
5-7 / 14-11 St. John's
4-6 / 15-9 Connecticut
3-7 / 12-11 Seton Hall
3-8 / 12-13 South Florida
3-9 / 10-15 Rutgers
1-9 / 10-14 Cincinnati

No games tonight, but we have 4 matchups on Wednesday.

Syracuse @ USF
Seton Hall @ UConn
UC @ Villanova
Marquette @ DePaul

The first 3 games will each have a heavy favorite. If Syracuse and UConn win it probably approaches the point of locking in the bottom 4 who miss the tournament. We'd have a 2 game separation in the win column from 12th to 13th place.
