No one can compete with UNT but I had no idea Neutral Milk Hotel was from Ruston. Always thought they were from Georgia for some reason. Too cool.

There aren't any SA bands worth claiming IMO.

I opened for these guys back when they were playing at the Boro in 2003 or '04.

Also played a lot with these guys who were huge in Murfreesboro

and was on casron daly show and I think he was on Fallon one night too.

These guys signed a contract and pissed their money away. I never really liked their music but...

Great band (live) that I saw back in 2011 at the Magoffin Auditorium on the UTEP campus. They were Mumford & Sons before there was a Mumford & Sons. One of the best concerts I've ever been to and I've been to quite a bit.

Not entirely untrue but here are a few that are from the area:

Steve Earle
Pat Green
The Butthole Surfers
George Strait

I don't know much about Tejano/Conjunto music but there are many world renowned artists from here.

Missy Elliot, can you claim Portsmouth?

Just searched and I didn't know Seven Mary Three were from Willamsburg.

If our CUSA bragging grounds include Williamsburg, then you've overlooked Bruce Hornsby (whose LSU-playing son we just recently dispatched in the Paradise Jam).

Steve is currently in a new band, with Kentucky native Joan Osborne, Audley Freed of Cry of Love, plus Jackie Green of the Black Crows plus a couple of other musicians, named Trigger Hippy.

Audley Freed was with the Black Crowes, which is way more notable than Cry of Love..... 04-bow

Im a huge Crowes fan so I am biased.

So, have The Black Crowes broken up AGAIN?

Kings of Leon are from somewhere between Murfreesboro and Nashville I think, I was a student when they made it big seemed like every other person I met that year claimed to know them or have seen them at a house party.

Never really cared for them to be honest.

they're from okie-la-homie.

they may have relocated to where you say before/after success but they are from the state with bent trees and muddy holes they call lakes.

and i do like them.

How has nobody mentioned the Everly Brothers yet?

they're from muhlenburg county. they just sang about the split-tails from bowling green. not from here. they once had an outdoor benefit concert in central city. john prine who does mention muhlenburg county in the song 'paradise' played in it. so did the 'kentucky headhunters' who hail from edmonton ky (not far from bg).

if we can claim the everly brothers we can claim the ky headhunters. if we claim the headhunters (from edmonton) we can claim 'black stone cherry' who will rock your balls outta their sack. fun fact: black stone cherry drummer john fred young is the son of ky headhunter guitarist richard young.

love this black stone cherry rocker.

5 mt'ers in the top 40?

that's an indictment son.....not a good thing. they're making the world a poorer place to live in. top 40 country is watered down southern rock infused with pop and spoon fed to redneck lemmings from the mothership (nashville).

i'll be watching you!!!
