UNC players damage Duke facilities after win.
Quote:The celebration Thursday, however, carried over into the visiting locker room at Brooks Practice Facility where Tar Heels players spray painted the letters “UNC” on walls and even the carpet. According to reports, the graffiti was also found at the practice field and in areas of Wallace Wade Stadium.

Stay classy, Carolina -- stay classy.

The damage isn't trivial. About $10,000 worth. UNC immediately announced that no one would be punished. Seriously.

I attended the ECU-Miami game in Carter-Finley Stadium the year Greenville was flooded out. ECU fans tore down the goalposts in somebody else's stadium after an emotional win. It happens, and it isn't a big deal. Carolina will pay for the repairs, and ABC fans will use this as internet fodder. Some things never change.

This wasn't fans. This was student athletes officially representing their university. This was in a locker room where coaches and staff would have been present.

The $10,000 figure earlier was just an estimate. It's now believed that the damage was over $25,000.

Under the circumstances that UNC faces, it's insane to punish no one. No, this isn't something the NCAA will punish directly but it's something that will come to the attention of those making the decision on what punishment UNC receives for other offenses. It furthers the impression that things are out of hand in Chapel Hill. The NCAA has a 2x4 that it can take to the side of UNC's head to get their attention.

$25,000.00 is a drop in the bucket considering how much money the schools will both make from a single ACC game. UNC would willingly pay $25,000.00 in facility repairs every week if it meant that their underachieving team would win the ACC.

...in fact most FBS teams would also do the same.

These are 19 year old kids, and if you're looking to smear UNC then there are about 20 other things that you can use.

This is a non-story.

^..Thinking, if it was a non-story, it wouldn't have made the front page of the local TV station's sports website, but ok.

Widespread academic fraud, players and coaches with open ties to agents, players assaulting other players, and a team full of vandals.

"Carolina Way" indeed.

I assumed it first they continued spraying the bell and you had residual spray paint hit lockers, walls, and carpet that would need professional cleaning or replacement.

When I actually read that we had players spray painting "UNC" on stadium walls, that's a different matter to me. It may be difficult to pinpoint specific players (I doubt it but we'll just assume), but at a minimum if I'm AD the coaching staff would face some punishment. There had to be staff back there while this was going on and you cannot allow that to happen.

There are rivalries and excitement, but that's ridiculous.

The coaching staff should direct the ones that did the damage to step forward and take their punishment. If no one steps forward then the entire team should be punished in some way. The coaches shouldn't have to investigate or say there is no way of knowing who did it. The players should show some integrity and own up to their mistake.

Integrity? Within the UNC athletic department?

Didn't ECU buy those goalposts before the game took place? I'm pretty sure we tore them down in Raleigh in 1987...so the admin purchased them for the Miami game before hand.

The ACC office should fine Fedora $50,000. Half goes to Duke for repair. The other half is put toward league overhead.

LOL SWOFFORD FAT CHANCE.

The obvious culprit here is Duke football. They should never have been pretending to be good.

Remember when the u.s. hockey team had a quick exit from the Olympics several years back and destroyed their hotel rooms? I do. It was a big storyline.

No personal responsibility, no consequences, no integrity, blame the victim: The Carolina Way.

That should happen, but it would not fit with The Carolina Way.
