Aside from a better game day experience, which would lead to being able to charge more for tickets, you would have more revenue from private boxes, plus all the revenue from parking and concessions, plus you would create a connection for students and alumni. Virtually every new D1 stadium creates a significant spike in revenue.

Sorta my ideal situation, 35000 would look much better in a 40000 stadium. Now we might not get an OCS, but what could the LB do to give the full appearance (besides selling 60000 tickets)

The expenses would be greater than the revenue. You can make certain arguments for an OCS, but being a profit center ain't one of them.

The Liberty Bowl is fine for another decade or so with all the renovations...we have 9-10 years to get all the financials and planning specifics taken care for so we can have an OCS by the time the Liberty Bowl becomes no longer viable.

I still want this...eventually (Walker and Patterson)

I don't care if the stadium is on campus or in freaking Arlington. if it's nice, seats 40-45k and has a place to tailgate thats fine by me

Bingo. We could have 200 million laying around and the city would find a way to prevent it from happening. The city would lose out on the money they make with us using the LB. Our city leaders are always looking for free money from somewhere. They would lose that free money if we built our own place. The city ain't making money on the Liberty Bowl. It costs them WAY more to operate it than they receive in rent. Financially, razing the Liberty Bowl would be the best option for the city.

....and won't be happening. the latest images for the master plan have street renovations to Patterson with a curve to the right, so the intersection at walker is a true intersection instead of the "stop at patterson, turn, stop 100 feet later at walker" current situation.

The Crews Center just opened over there off Walker last year, and the "greek village" will be in the area the stadium would be in this pic, with the events center behind that, all of which are behind to a more formal front entrance to the university at Highland.

Yep, I'm afraid if we get an OCS is will be at the South Campus.

So instead of being 2 miles from campus...the 'OCS' will only be a half mile off campus.

Why would we want a smaller stadium? I remember a couple of years ago, everyone going on about how we need a 30,000 seat stadium. Why would we want to limit ourselves in that regard? Because the Liberty Bowl is too big for the Tigers? It seats 59,000 people. We'll probably never really average more than 44 to 46 thousand people (which would be plenty competitive with a lot of P5 programs).

Right now it's almost double what we average attendance. Which is a problem.

An on campus stadium will do little or nothing for attendance.

I'd like an OCS, but really, the Liberty Bowl with Tiger Lane is a really nice setup. Make gameday/tailgating an event, win more games than you lose, and schedule interesting teams, and people will come.

This, and I was one of the biggest proponents for an ocs back before any of the LB upgrades were done.

There are legitimate problems with us playing in the Liberty Bowl. However, there are things that could be done (and really have been done) at the stadium to address at least some of them.

Ultimately, while an OCS should be a long term goal of the program (since the Liberty Bowl won't last forever, after all, and I don't think the school should go along with building another municipal stadium), I think right now there are other things the program should be prioritizing. I also think that the Liberty Bowl is still pretty nice, all things considered, even if it isn't perfect.

At any rate, we're probably going to be in the Liberty Bowl for the next 15 years at least. So the OCS conversation is really tabled for now anyway.

I would love to see MLS in Memphis at the LBMS.
