Memphis versus "The Public Ivy"
Decent early thread at UConn's Board --- well, except for crime boss, Jimmy Serrano, giving us the business. And even there it feels nice to ruin his day. >>>
Yes, but they are still Memphis. I know that Memphis, given their academic and athletic reputation, is thrilled to be in the American and partnered with a school like UConn. But from where I sit, I loathe that we are associated with a school like Memphis.

At the very least, WTH on "athletic reputation" ? UConn's reputation ? Dirty and cheating (documented) their way to success with the likes of Calhoun ? Not to mention starving their players.

I don't get into academic pissing matches, but UConn is a public Ivy? I thought that was reserved for schools like Cal, Texas, upper B10 schools, UVA… You know, the schools I didn't get into for grad school
I was at the Cal/Texas hoops game at MSG Friday and it was a bummer b/c I got rejected by both MArch programs (sad me)...

I found myself rooting for Cal, underdog and I understood Cal was a longshot when I applied. I applied in the height of the 2002-2005 recession and enrollment was up everywhere so it pushed candidates down a few rungs from their normal placement (at least that is what I tell myself when I cry at night).
Rejected: Cal (bummed me out), Texas (weird, only bummer is Austin is nice), Penn (my true 100% reach, still not sure why I bothered, it's not like I had $60K a year to pay the freight anyway). Got into Illinois and Kansas, Illinois has a better MArch program and they let me be a design studio TA and paid half, so off to the corn fields I went

Never stopped, I hate plenty. Louisville, Louisville, Louisville.
And don't forget Louisville.

Their fans call themselves a Public Ivy. I guess it's sort of like Mississippi fans calling themselves The Harvard of the South a couple of years back.

I have been a professor at Columbia and Harvard. I am willing to bet Memphis is as good as UConn academically and probably excels in some areas.

Never heard UConn as a "public ivy" so I checked.
Its average SAT scores are on par with Clemson, Georgia, Delaware, and Texas AM. Those are all fine schools, but I seriously doubt if they consider themselves ivy league status.

It must lead to low self-esteem being surounded on all sides by Yale, Brown, Harvard, and Columbia.

You are clearly a baller. I've taught at Cooper and NYU but only as an adjunct. Can't get in the front door at even NYIT.
Columbia? They wouldn't let me be a TA lol...
