The biggest thing I am trying to convey is this: We need to be an honest broker in the region. We can't let Israel play Gepetto to our Pinnochio. Having Iran not shooting off rockets near the Straits of Hormuz can pay off in a big way. Just calculate that in dollars and the effect on our economy. It's huge.

How? We have decided biased interests. Saudi Arabia and Israel are considered US Vassal states by many in the region.

There is one simple solution to stopping the stranglehold that the Middle Eastern monarchies and dictatorships have on the oil reserves. Raise gas taxes on all gas imported from those nations. Make it unbearable for US citizens to buy that oil and instead focus on what little oil we have AND create subsidies for alternative, cheaper energy sources. Bam! You've just got the power to a lot of these Middle Eastern theocracies and at the same time added fuel to our own economy. But hey, not likely to happen. The biggest lobby in the US? The oil industry, promoted by the elitists in America and the governments of the Middle East.

The reason we use oil is not because of the federal lobbyist, but because there doesn't exist a better alternative. If battery power can make a significant breakthrough, then the nation will make the transition.

You gonna pony up to fill the trucks that move all our stuff from coast to coast at 8 bucks a gallon? whats this cheap alternative energy source we haven't found in 40+ years of looking? Maybe I've missed the news, but for those that talk about Obama's policies that attack fracking, can you point me in the direction of the legislation he has signed that has curbed it? Being against something and acting against it are two different things (and really, I haven't seen legislation passed, so if there has been anything done to hinder it, please send it my way, I would be interested in reading about it, but none of this "he hasn't opened up federal lands crap).

Also, I believe that liberal stronghold of Denton, Texas passed strict anti-fracking laws in the last(just goes to show that this isn't a strictly partisan issue).

Honestly, the costs have nothing to do with politics, in fact it is really lack of politics that have allowed fracking to boom and really drive down prices as OPEC has said, "screw it," and decided to keep production high, hoping to push fracking companies out by keeping barrel costs down.
