RE: Game #5: Gardner Webb
I witnessed it in person. The "bigs" for ISU were big...the couple of guys with the big Afros appears at least a couple inches taller with those "do's". Most importantly they were bulky. All of our shooters were "off'. Even Trey was having balls go halfway in and pop out in the first half.
My opinion is......we aren't as great as we looked against LSU and not as bad as we looked against ISU.
Not sure who to root for tonight. My guess is ISU. Better for teams who defeat us to keep winning???

Definitely. Them beating Seton Hall would definitely in the long term help us out. The more they keep winning, the less it'll seem like a "bad" loss, if it really is at all. LSU and Richmond are thinking the same about us probably. haha

Get ready for the same types of press from here on out. VCU and others will extend us to halfcourt and make our bigs handle the ball. Of course, if you can't shoot there will be some long evenings...

Im not concerned with the press....we actually beat it pretty easily, but did a bad job of making the passes to finish 2 on 1s.

Coach Muller made a few adjustments to the starting lineup putting in Devon Akoon-Purcell (#44) who gets after it on both ends. Last year we were a team playing 4 guards, noone really over 6'4" except our starting center Reggie Lynch.
This year we threw 6'7" Akoon-Purcell, 6'"8 Deontae Hawkins into the mix with 6'10" Reggie Lynch. Throw in our guards who love to get at in the defensive end and who on paper say they're 6'3" (Knight) and 6'1" (Paris Lee) and we're no longer the midgets we were last year.
Also having a couple of bigs off the bench helped 6'9" John Jones (#10), 6' 9" Will Ransom (#45), 6'7 " Mikyle McIntosh (#11) helps when Lynch gets in foul trouble. Last year we had no help once Lynch went out and Jones was injured.
As for the DEF, it's supposed to be an extended 2-3, but it looks more like an amoeba defense. It morphs into a 3-2 at times, a 1-3-1 when the ball swings to the corners, I saw a little 2-1-2 zone in there. The half court trap varied between a 2-2-1 and a 1-2-2 at times. I was confused watching it, so I can't imaging trying to attack that thing last night.
We threw a lot of junk defense at you guys, not sure you'll see anything like that or possibly many teams with that much length. Good luck in the C-USA and tonight.
I saw a lot of 1-3-1 in the halfcourt. Ya"ll can jive it up all you want but it was basically a 1-3-1 that did the damage. It is easy to simply let the point on the one three one double team the ball when it goes to the wing and that causes havoc or you can even have the point double team the ball wherever the ball goes. Just depends on how much pressure you want to apply. It is designed to shift all over the floor. It is nothing like the basic and simple 2-3 or the 2-1-2.

I agree pressure will be applies to the ball handler and the passing lanes.

Our offense consists of Freeman making off balance pull ups from 18 feet. Glad started at Campbell because he's just a junior now... but lol at BT.
