Who's running the full or half marathon?
And when does the carb loading begin? Running the half myself. Ready for it.

Not a runner myself but I know about 7 or 8 coming from Huntsville to run. I have fielded a lot of "where's the best place to _____" questions about Memphis. lol Good luck in the marathon.

You don't necessarily need to carbo load for a half. The body has the ability to store enough glycogen for about three hours. BUT, it won't hurt if that is part of your plan. Just be careful not to put on a couple extra pounds during the loading process. You would be surprised how running with an extra 2 or three pounds can slow you down.

Be careful. There is a lot of debate about weather or not carb loading is even required. For a half marathon it probably isn't required.

I would make sure to eat whatever you eat before your long training runs and not try anything new the day before a race. If pasta works before your long runs then go with it but if you haven't been doing that then you might get some GI issues.

Just remember how long the lines are going to be for the porta johns before the start of the race.

I think this is the 5th time I've done the half. Hopefully the weather cooperates this year.

My husband is running the half this year. He was going to do the full last year before the ice hit, then had to re-train for April to do the make-up race in Nashville, so he's laying off 26.2 for a bit after essentially running it 3 times in 6 months.

My house is right past mile 17.

I'll only be running the half, so I won't make it that far.

That was my first and it was fun. Wanted to get under 2 hours for the half and did it in 1:56. Can't wait for the next one. The support was amazing down there.

Congrats on finishing and hitting your goal.

It was my first also and I too had a sub-two hour goal - finished in 1:58:07. Running through the St Jude campus was especially moving.

Great time! Congrats! Yeah...St. Jude was very moving. I definitely had the video camera going on my phone.

I had a pretty good first 13 miles, then hit the wall at 14. Struggled across the finish line at 5:58. Two more minutes and they would have closed it down.

It wasn't pretty, but I finished!

Congrats! This was my first half and I have a couple of friends wanting me to run the whole next year. One of the thoughts that ran through my head somewhere between mile eleven and twelve was, nope, no desire to keep this up for 14+ more miles.

I bet I beat him to the free beer.

Thanks! Yeah, when I was at about mile 18, the only thing that kept me going on was just having to come back. Still, its nice to check "run a marathon" off the list.

Congratulations on the half-marathon too!
