Walt should be happy -- only 5 of Rice's victories are to teams ranked 100 or below!

Yes, but we won't have an opportunity to beat a top-50 team.

Already throwing in the towel against La Tech?

Given that ND and A$M are in the 30's, maybe if we had beaten them they would be in the 50's and we still would not have a win over a top 50 team.
Nut if we play our cards right, we can get another shot at marshall, and who knows who we may face in a bowl.

If we beat La Tech, they DEFINITELY will not be considered a Top 50 team.

Well...if we beat LA Tech and end up ranked #50, then, according to Parliament wailers and kavetchers we'll have beaten a Top 50 team.
Why do I say that? Do your research, weinies, and check out the posts. Over the last decade, in three out of four games we lose, Parliament wailers and kavetchers declare that Rice beats Rice.
So...this year, if we end up ranked #50, that'll make three defeats of a Top 50 team...if you're enjoying a fine single malt...maybe...

I never go out on a limb, never make predictions.
Having said that, we'll beat La Tech, dammit.

No, but regardless of what happens between Marshall and WKU, Marshall will be a top 50 team when they face a pissed-off Rice team in the conference championship game.

Don't you think Marshall will have reasons to be even more motivated? Revenge for last year's championship loss...last home games for their senior-laden team...not only conference championship on the line, but a perfect 12 - 0 regular season...with a victory virtually locking up their bid to a major bowl (as the best G5 team). And given how badly we were manhandled a couple weeks back at Marshall-- on both sides of the ball, it's hard to imagine we'll suddenly come up with a game plan to radically change the outcome. Fortunately, anything is possible. On any given Saturday...

Shouldn't we beat La Tech before we start worrying about Marshall?

RE: College football rankings - week of November 22
Well, yes. That's a given.
Before La Tech lost yesterday, we had to beat La Tech if we want to beat a top 50 team. After La Tech lost yesterday, we have to beat La Tech if we want to beat a top 50 team. Beating La Tech is still part of the equation in beating a top 50 team.
I seriously doubt the team is going to overlook La Tech just because we want to speculate on our potential rematch with Marshall.

Excellent use of Yiddish, even if you used too many vowels. That's probably the perfect description of some parliament discussions.

I don't think we've mentioned Rice beating Rice as much in the last 2 seasons.

I'm aware of that. My, uh, KVETCH post, said last ten years.
Very likely the decrese in "Rice beating Rice" posts is another indication of program improvement.
