Brown is still shooting badly but the last two games, he has been playing better. UAB had two big runs, one in the first half and the one that ended the game. The common players in both runs were Baxter, Brown and Norton. Brown contributed in both runs.

I have not looked at the stats but we'll be lucky if we have five offensive rebounds. Jackson St. was very very good about boxing out. It looked like every time we took a shot from a set play, they had three men in the paint who were all over the rebound.

UAB was credited with 9 offensive rebounds, while Jackson State had 14.

Defensive rebounds were in Jackson State's favor 26-15.

In the post-game interview, Haase was very upset about the rebounding stats and his team's lack of energy.

We appear to have a lot of potential this year...potential to have a historically bad season.

We shoot poorly, we rebound poorly, we defend poorly, and we struggle at the line. Our older players seem to be struggling most. Other than steals im not sure this team does anything well, yet. We wont get 35 free throw opportunities on the road...

Unless there is a tremendous leap in performance over today, we are a dozen win team at best.

Dozen? That's being very optimistic.

The team has shot 80% or better in 3 of 4 games. They had one bad game.

Yeah, Brown has struggled but it easy to forget he sat out a year. Washington has sucked and he has no excuse. A soft power forward that mainly likes to shoot 3's.

We also need to remember brown was a 33% and 23% shooter in 2012-13. It isn't like we added Kevin durant. I think some had unrealistic expectations of what brown is. At times, I have seen a guy who can take a game over in more ways than just scoring. We need that mentality from him constantly now. We need a leader, and cj is not that. Madison or brown need to take that role on.

We have 7 guys averaging over 6 points a game, and that is without lee or watts producing at all. Get those two back fully, and we are going to have a lot more options.

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't loved what this team has done so far, but I'm not as pessimistic as some of you are either. We have one returning starter this year. It was always going to take time to gel. In the exhibition game, we fought hard to get back in the game, but we couldn't make the plays to win it. Yesterday we were able to fight hard and make the plays to win it. We have improved greatly since that exhibition, and I think we will continue to do so.

I expect to see what this team really is around the start of conference play. I am concerned about our lack of road games though, so that will probably catch up to us in conference play. This was never the year for me, it was always going to be next year. We are only losing one guy, and it's easy to see him being replaced without many issues. I've said it all along, I just want to see a better team at the tournament in Birmingham than we have been seeing so far this year. I think that will happen.

Trying to be a stretch 4 instead of a banger.

This team really needs a leader. Washington doesn't have it in him. He's very passive and lets the game flow dictate his play versus the other way around. He's more of a 2nd or 3rd option on a really good team rather than the guy you have as your best option. Brown needs to focus on impacting the game in other ways than shooting 20% from the floor and jacking up a lot of shots. Madison deserves big time minutes. This team is worse so far than I even expected.

How quickly we forgot this team was built around Chad Frazier the missing link, but I think you hit it right on the head Answer. I wouldnt mind seeing Brown, Washington, and Lee come off the bench to get some younger to set the pace. The most puzzling player to me is Hak cant tell what option he is at the moment. Also Ty Madison is playing great he kinda reminds me of Tyler and we know how that ended. Also at this point I wish we woulve rs Calhoun especially since his minutes are gone and his health scare last season but he could be a better point than Denzel and Denzell.

RE: Jackson State game thread
Washington's play this year has not surprised or disappointed me. Though I was happy for him, I thought it was somewhat laughable when he was named to the preseason all-conference team. He is a role player. He is a below average D1 athlete but made up for it last year with a good feel for the game, hustle, and ability to get himself in the right place at the right time. I doubted my assessment of him when Haase hyped him up as a guy we'd rely on heavily, and I've been wrong before (I thought Cam Moore was too soft to ever be a great player after his first two years). I was hoping I was wrong on CJ, but it doesn't appear that I was.

What I'm disappointed about is his role on the team this year. I just don't understand why so much pressure is being put on him to be a leader on the court and a scorer. If he's going to be a "go to" guy, he's got to have a post game or a good outside shot. He has neither. If he can't be a scorer, he at least needs to be able to change the game on the defense end, but his lack of athleticism is a major limiting factor.

Don't get me wrong, I like Washington and think he has a valuable role to play on the team. I just see him as a role player and don't understand why he's been given the green light to take 15 shots a game.

As far as Brown's struggles, I don't really know what we do. He seems to have all the tools to be the game changer we need him to be, but for whatever reason he can't finish at the rim or make an outside shot. Maybe those shots should go to Baxter and some of his minutes to Madison.

RE: Jackson State game thread
Good game by our young Blazers. The team took a step back but individual players like Norton, Brown, Cokley, Sullivan and Lee got better, . Jackson State gave the Blazers a difficult matchup, they forced the Blazers to match up at the 1-3 positions. At one point we had Norton, Watts, Madison, Brown and Mehinti in the game. Our 4 guards matched up better with the small team Jackson State put on the floor. At the 2 minute mark our 4 guards did a better job matching up, stopping the ball and turning Jack St over.
But as a whole our guard play was average to below average, our guards are still having a hard time stopping or redirecting the ball. The opposing teams guards are getting to many points in the paint, this problem has persisted thru every game.
When we played USF, they had a guard grab around 7 rebound because their guards were attacking the cup and getting after loose balls, that comes from out hustling and getting past your man.
As hard as it may be to believe, this team is built to play the traditional type of big ball, they match up better with the traditional PG, SG, SF, PF and Center, small ball will be difficult until our guard play gets better.
So relax and enjoy the season, the team is young, fun to watch, hungry and talented but they are young without a floor leader. Yes they are getting better and the light is going to come on and the game will get easier. I believe our guys will play well on this trip, they will be the underdogs in every game. I believe the underdog role with give our Blazers an advantage since everyone loves the strappy underdogs, but I do expect to see improvement, I see us winning 1 game but I am claiming 2 wins, if the team comes home with a win I believe the trip would have been a success.
If teams are going to beat our YOUNG Blazers, I believe this year will be the year to do it because after this year I see a team out for the Big Pay Back.
