The Cactus Bowl against Stanford? Will we be allowed to trip them with our crutches?

MWC has the backup to Cactus, they will fill that after Las Vegas Bowl. Even if they are short a team, they will forgo New Orleans or Boise. SB could be an option if Boise is dropped a MWC team.

Yeah cactus bowl is a huge stretch - I would think armed forces wpuld be a more likely at large than a bowl game in Arizona

I don't see TXST getting picked over USA for the Camellia Bowl. These guy don't think that way, they just look at overall records.

I also don't see WKU getting picked by Armed Forces as one projection has. They will want a team that can sell seats, which would be TXST.

new orleans: Arkansas State vs Nevada
Camellia: south al vs toledo
Godaddy: lala vs northern Illinois

if the NO bowl hadn't drastically changed their kickoff time, I could've saw a possibility of cajuns huskies match up but with a noon kickoff they'll turn to lafayette again to make the short trip to fill the superdome

Stanford would maul us. It wouldn't even be fair. Our 17 man defense against a PAC 12 team with gigantic lines that likes to run the ball right up the middle over and over again?

RE: latest bowl projections
If stAte and Tx. St both win next week to get to 7-5, then there's a chance for both to get a bowl. stAte to one of the Alabama bowls and Tx. St to the Armed Forces. There may be a lot of extra bowl eligible teams, but most of them will be from USA, MWC and MAC. The match up is against AAC, so they won't pair them against another from that conference. The PAC 14 extra team could take the Cactus.

That would work out fantastic for the Sun Belt. I suppose it's a big IF.

Well we know these guys aren't paying attention (Old Dominion can only go if there aren't enough eligible teams AND if they get selected over Georgia Southern and App State). 05-nono

That isn't so. ODU was released from their former conference last year, so last season was the one that they were not eligible. One more win this year and they'll be bowl eligible.

It has nothing to do with the CAA "releasing" them. They chose to spend an extra year in the FCS to be eligible to win an FCS National Championship (even though the CAA would not allow them to be conference champions). Last year was their first transitional year and this year is their 2nd (2nd year transitional teams are only bowl eligible if there are not enough bowl eligible teams otherwise). They did play a primarily FBS schedule in 2013 unlike App and Georgia Southern, but that was because they had announced their intentions much earlier and had time to put together an FBS schedule, whereas GaSo and App kept their SoCon schedules.

Read this article if you are unsure: http://hamptonroads.com/2013/01/conferen...ball-title

"If the Monarchs were to win the conference championship in 2014, it's unlikely they would be eligible to accept the accompanying bid to the Liberty Bowl.

Bowl eligibility is determined by the NCAA, not conferences, and under current rules, ODU can go to a bowl only if there aren't enough eligible teams to fill all the bowl slots.

ODU becomes bowl eligible in 2015."

You can also double check that on the CUSA board under the "Bowl Analysis" thread. Scroll down to about the 8th or 9th post.

Incorrect. NCAA does not care about whether or not a conference releases them. They care about the transition itself. Last year ODU played as an FCS Independent, This year they play as an FBS CUSA member. Both years they are ineligible for the title.

Texas State went through a similar deal. Left the Southland a year early and played FCS Independent for a year.

App State and GaSouthern will go bowling before the golden children from Norfolk.

If and when someone does play ODU, I guarantee a ton of support from your conference-mates.

App State will get the chance to put those upstarts in their place next year.
