I just don't get this obsession with trying to replay the Ga Southern game. We played the game when it was scheduled. They won. I'm far more interested in the game coming up this Saturday than the game back in September.

Actually, the only ones that really remember (aka care) who won that year is the team that won, nobody else really gives a hoot after that.

1. App - simply awesome run through stAte and UL. Surprise of the season.
2. TXST - if app coming out of their slump to beat stAte was impressive, TXST's thrashing was even more so. Only TXST doesn't get to follow it up by facing UL while clicking on all cylinders.
3. UL - off day, still one of the best teams in the belt
4. GS - After the beatdown by navy, it's looking more and more like their win over TXST was a fluke. If being dominated in almost every facet of the game didn't already hint at it already, Navy made GS look like they are on a downward trend after a hot start to the year. Inflated record and preserved depth due to a cupcake schedule.
5. stAte - talented team, but not enough depth right now due to a ton of injuries
6. South Alabama - facing a painful end to their season. Hopefully a bowl invite will boost their spirits.
7. ULM - rough year, but they have a chance to make everyone happy by beating GS
8 Troy
9. Idaho
10. Georgia State

We beat you at home. I guess that puts Texas State in the cupcake category.

We'll enjoy our Championship rings, you enjoy justifying your mediocre season and how you "dominated" Georgia Southern (even though you lost).

I don't really know how to say this better, this is a power poll. This is where they are playing right NOW.

To see the SBC standings and feel better about yourself click here, http://espn.go.com/college-football/conf...conference

So the week after ULL had to score a last minute TD to beat GaSt at home, you probably ranked ULL 8-10?

No since they won the game, but I would think it fair and prudent to move them down a spot or two. They didn't play at the level they are capable of, but they still found a way to win which shows a teams character. Also Ga State was playing at a higher level earlier in the year.

Power polls ebb and flow based on numerous variables, your Eagles were lights out earlier in the year while App State was the opposite. Now the tide has shifted based on recent games.

Everyone seems to point to TX State and Navy. We'll, it looks like TX State is a pretty decent team now and Navy is significantly better when their starting QB is at full strength. I'd bet that the Navy team that GS played in Annapolis on their Senior Day, which they haven't lost on in 11 years, would wipe the floor with any Sunbelt team.

Here are the facts: GS is 7-0 in the conference. They have in conference a highly rated offense and defense. With the exception of NMSU and TX State, both on the road, they have beaten all other Sunbelt teams by 20+ points. There is no guarantee that App St. ULL or stAte could beat GS in a game played today. Given what I've seen from ULL and stAte over the past couple of weeks, my guess is that GS would soundly beat both of them. As for App State, 34 is a lot more than 14. Of course there's always next year.

Thank you for making my point, click there to see standings. No point to a power ranking if we are just going to use standings every week.

So let me get this straight.....

GS has the best record in the conference both in conference and overall, has scored the most points both in the conference and overall, given up the least points both in the conference and overall....... but somehow they are not the best team.

Oooooookaaaaayyyyyyy............

Yes, in a power ranking format as of this week. This has been discussed at length, I only reply because I like your name.

I don't see how any power ranking can have App State #1. You can't start off 1-5 and lose to Liberty and then have a late season awakening and suddenly become the #1 power in the conference.
SA at home. I think it is GSU and five other schools at #2.

Because it is a power ranking. And from the beginning of the season all fan bases have said multiple times we are basing this on recent performances. So looking at the past couple weeks app has had better showings, therefore in this power ranking they deserve the top spot. GS is still the top of the conference in terms of rankings. ESPN does power rankings for NFL teams and the team with the best record isn't always number 1.

You mean this? http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings

It mostly follows the record of the team. I seriously doubt they would rank a team with two more losses that convincingly lost the head to head higher.

If you have followed that at all, you would know they frequently rank teams that are hot higher than teams that have better records. If we wanted to see the standings, we could bore ourselves and look at those. BTW just like this week in the link you provided.

App State is good enough to be number 1 because they beat someone who is apparently only good enough to be number 5? If ULL is only number 5, that win is not as impressive and App should be 2 or 3 at best.

If that is true, then Texas State should be #2 on your list. Georgia Southern had their 33 point loss to Navy and Arkansas State has lost two in a row, inclusing that 18 point loss to Texas State. So how are your rankings based?

The ESPN power rankings are a combination of season and recent performance. For example, the Rams are #22 on the list yet have won 3 of their last 5 games with wins over Seattle, San Francisco and Denver. That 4-6 record won't get them beyond #22.

This is a power poll, as in what level are these teams playing at RIGHT NOW.

If we want the body of work we just got to the SBC standings. I can provide the link to that if you can't find that.

Agreed with Buffalo.

Lol. This is what you mean, but with actual data behind it. Of course, why would you want it based on actual data when you can't get the desired results.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/stat...eamratings

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.

On a side note. I find it humorous when an opinion based Question gets asked and people act offended when someone has a different opinion.
