CMU also had that streak from 06-10, which is embarrassing. I'm sure CMU's MACC also helped create that perception too. So lots of things. It looks like it's not as bad as it would seem though.
The Mount Pleasant curse was legitimate for a long time -and 2000 didn't help. Like some of you, I know a number of Broncos who still haven't and/or won't go back because of that game. That said - since our win in 2002, we're 3-4 in Mount Pleasant (and could have won the 2004 and 2010 games had we not fumbled late in both).
CMU does have the edge in championships - undeniable. I keep repeatedly reading that WMU has only won two MAC championships in 106 years. I must have missed the memo that the MAC was around back in 1908.
(Not that two championships in 67 years sounds much better, but writers could at least get that right.)
Some Chip fans will point out they have more bowl wins, which is true (they have a grand total of three), but also gets an eye roll out of me. As Kimbo has pointed out, he could have played in four bowl games if the bowl system was the free-for-all it is now back in his days. That said, winning a bowl game this year would obviously be a good first step in hopefully bagging a few more in the coming years.
The main point of my research was not to bag on Central - just to point out legitimate facts that IMO get overlooked. I may hate Central, but I do respect them. I know a lot of Chippewas who are great people. I do think, though, there is a certain amount of arrogance that some Chips direct toward us. The handshake denial was indicative of that IMO.
As Mark Dantonio once said about his hated rival, some of them need to check themselves.
