FAU is our Bowl Game. Sunny Fla, great matchup, last game of the season. It's everything a decent bowl would be at this level, only a few weeks earlier and no trophy at the end.

Is there a trophy for that? If not, there should be. And what ever happened to,the silver mace for the WM game? That should be brought back. Maybe for the UNCC rivalry since they are the Queen City.

RE: Not Looking Good for Less than 76 Bowl Eligible Teams
It will take a series of events of Biblical proportions this weekend for the Old Dominion football team to end up in a bowl.

But that doesn't change the fact that the Monarchs head into their final game of the season Saturday at Florida Atlantic University mathematically in the running for a bowl bid.

"We'll go wherever we're invited if we're invited," he said. "We'll ride our bikes there if we have to."

well, Va @ VT - whoever wins will be bowl eligible, the other will not. Same with Illinois vs Northwestern.

That means we need almost all of these teams to lose, and Navy needs to lose twice.

Temple
Pitt
Oklahoma St
Michigan
UAB
Navy***
Akron
Ohio
Fresno St
Cal
Oregon St
Kentucky
Tennessee

Ohio (Miami OH) 3 point favorite
I wouldn't rule anything out as there are alot of close games. Of course we have to take care of business ourselves first.

UAB, Tennessee, Akron, Ohio and Navy all have cupcake games. Highly unlikely that they will all lose.

RE: Not Looking Good for Less than 76 Bowl Eligible Teams
We've played 6 Bowl eligible teams. I'd say our season was full of bowl games.

Here we go again, Wilder is hyping up another "First". A bowl game. Putting yet more pressure on his team.

Take care of FAU. Go out 6-6. Let someone else worry about bowl bids.

Teams that are 3-4 point favorites are not cupcake games, but you would have to expect a few of those teams to win.

Yeah, motivation is a big factor in football. You have to find ways to get the players hyped to play.

Winning is the only factor. Beat your opponent. Take care of your business first and the rest will follow.

What could be more motivational than winning? What if ODU wasn't eligible for a bowl? According to you, there's no motivation to beat FAU then.

You're right. Pressure is not a catalyst for performance. Every game should be approached with an enlightened Buddhist's nonchalance. It just doesn't matter.

What the heck are you smoking?

its just some extra motivation to make the players aware that there is still something to play for. I bet for a lot of teams that are having bad seasons its tough to motivate them this time of year. a lot of players might check out.

I guess Wilder forgot what he told his team.

"Wilder just wants his Monarchs to have fun"

"At the end of the day, they're still 18- to 22-year-olds. They re still college kids," he said. "They should enjoy winning as opposed to feeling the pressure of losing......."

Pressure has negative connotations. These kids aren't making iphones in China. ODU can still win but by adding the pressure of a bowl invitation to the FAU game, not getting one takes away from any joy of beating FAU.

You act like there's only one type of pressure, though. Pressure can certainly be positive. I think I do my best work under pressure. Everybody responds differently to different stimuli.

RE: Not Looking Good for Less than 76 Bowl Eligible Teams
Any football coach worth a salt finds ways to motivate kids. Whether Friday night ESPN game or the chance for a .500 record, or whatever. Football coaches have to take a poll of the team and figure what to say to try to get them to play better and that can change from week to week. With the biggest win in the history of the program last week, it's extremely difficult to get the gets up this week. What is FAU playing for this Saturday? Why do teams historically play well when they are games to make them bowl eligible?

People just find ways to complain about things.

Look no further than our friends in Blacksburg. Bowl game to them isn't as special as it would be for our kids.
