championship?
Perhaps this has already been hashed out...but what the heck flame me if you want.

Toledo has to lose for us to have a chance to play in the MAC championship? So we need to beat NIU and need UT to lose to EMU? 03-banghead

RE: championship?
YES, that's exactly it. EMU needs to beat Toledo in their house. Chances of that happening? 10%. EMU has had some surprisingly frustrating games (for the other team), and Toledo has a lot of injuries. However, Toledo has a passion to win.

The only way they won't have much passion is if NIU beats us.

RE: championship?
seems like UT could likely play with their collective right arms tied behind their backs, and still likely win...I wonder what the Vegas odds would be on that???

I guess the naysayers were correct...Fleck was wrong about the W2F thing. Or was he? If we take care of business...we will all be the biggest emu fans...GO HURONS!

I figure the odds will be about 21 points. 18 minimum! Possibly as high as 26.

Yep, I love the Hurons. Creighton has them playing well today. Their will be more fans pulling for EMU this week than at any time in their storied history.

a tie for first is still first right? We could be like toledo and count co-mac west championships (where we lose the tiebreaker) as championships

RE: championship?
Yeah, we would tie for MAC West Champs if we win out. All by botched kicking to lose by 1 pt in OT. Sigh.

sucks...but can't place it purely on the kicker (poor guy!). He probably still hates to think about that.

Yup. Defense just needed to stop Toledo on last drive. It's not all on the kicker.

It all matters nary though. This team is light years ahead of schedule. Another top-notch recruiting class and this team is going to be nasty.

RE: championship?
To me all this is icing on the cake.

I don't look at the 'What if. . .. . . . . . .. ' at the Toledo game for a few reasons:
1.) We had no idea how good we were exactly at that point. At that point we had only beat a (at the time) just as-struggling Idaho team and an FCS team.
2.) We were supposed to be 4-8, 6-6 tops this season. Want me to pull up the threads mocking the 'WTF' slogan?
3.) We should have lost to Ball St.

8-3 is still REALLY good. Say we win the Bowl Game, we may go 9-4, even 10-3!
Where would that rank in all-time best WMU seasons?

I just hope this season isn't remembered as 'We blew making/the MACC again'.

--------

Also, in regards to EMU beating Toledo, stranger things have happened, especially in the MAC. But EMU is a Bottom 5 D1 team. Toledo is possibly the Conference Champion.

Strictly in terms of wins, if we won 10 it would be the best season in program history. Not bad.

Depends on what you want to use as the criteria.
Obviously the MACC seasons would come first. 10-3, with the Bowl Win, would be immediately the next one no doubt.

Wouldn't that be something if WMU fans packed The Factory in Eagle gear and was LOUD for the Eagles?
Probably wouldn't matter. The Eagles are that bad.
But that'd be crazy.

If we could get NIU fans there too to join in the merriment....gosh darn MAC scheduling.

Yup, that's why I said strictly in terms of wins. Otherwise you could debate all sorts of criteria as to where this season ranks. If we win 10, it's the best seasons we've ever had as far as "winning" goes.

Right after the worst season we've ever had in terms of winning that would be quite an accomplishment

Not me!!!!!! No matter how much EMUgly could help us out in anything ever, I can never root for them, will never root for thrm and always want to see them get demolished in out of conference action. Now, I can cheer for Toledo to lose their game, but I will not be rooting for the Seagulls.

Why all the hate for the Eagles anyway, just out of curiosity?
