I think I saw three drives from the high post, a pull up, and a put back. As he gets better the defense has to at least account for him when he has the ball. He also had three assists, and I saw a couple of good feeds to cutters in the lane. I like the way this team is starting to play. A couple of home contests this week before a tough test at Richmond.

Fyi, Wofford this Saturday at the Hall may be just as tough as Richmond.

Anyone expecting an auto win here beware.

RE: Rice
A win over Wofford and Western Illinois at home after a win at Rice on the road would be a really good way to start the season. Such a scenario should give us some momentum going into Richmond, but neither W. Illinois or Wofford are a given.

If the Tribe continues to improve and play within themselves the way they did in the first half against Rice, this will be a great year.

Wofford, Richmond, High Point, ODU and UNC are all big games from an RPI standpoint. Based on RPI projections, we will be underdogs in all 5. There will be a maturation process for this team over the next 2 months. As Malinowski, Schlotman, and Whitman continue to develop, the Tribe could be the most athletic team we have had in a good while. I think Sheldon, Thornton, Prewitt, Dixon and Tarpey are already very solid players. Within the CAA, only Northeastern looks to be off to a good start.

Following the RPI roughly weekly is fun, but somewhat useless this early. ODU is currently #1 in the RPI with UNC #47. Western Illinois is #344 out of 351 teams. Of course, Va Tech just lost Saturday to Appy St who was in the bottom 10 prior to their win at Tech. Currently, the top CAA team is UNC Wilmington at #51. It will be a helpful tool in late December to see where we are.

I find Sagarin a much better predictor of games and most accurate daily ranking.

It obviously improves each day though as of now, Wofford is 77th out of 351 teams. The Tribe is 193.

Was it 2010 when we were ranked #1 in RPI in December?

May have been more recent than that. I recall gaggles of ODU and GMU fans on CAAzone laughing at our #1 RPI and I know VCU was already in the A10.

RE: Rice
I saw the Tar Holes beat Davidson in person in Charlotte on Saturday afternoon. UNC-Cheat was better than I expected. Davidson has decent size and is more athletic than ever and when the teams walked on the court I thought the UNC guys weren't much taller, but they all have longer arms. Lots of blocked and bothered shots, including blocked 3 point attempts. Davidson didn't get run out of the gym, but UNC was clearly the better team.
I sure hope the baby blue boys are thinking about where they will go for New Year's Eve when they play the Tribe on 12/30, that is going to be a tough game for W&M.

RE: Rice
Speaking of High Point, anyone besides me going to the game Saturday?

I've got a Davidson game at 4, I hope they are way up at halftime so I feel comfortable leaving and can get to High Point by tipoff.

I dislike afternoon tipoffs, but I love doubleheaders.
