I have seen this commercial a few times this year on TV and when streaming ODU games and I have to say its probably the worst one I have seen yet. I dont believe it paints a good picture for the university at all. Nothing personally against the girl in the commercial but I dont think she is a good fit for TV. To me there needs to be more of a production value and higher quality video. None of our commercials look professionally done. This is an area that ODU has slacked in for the longest time but now is the time to step this up with more TV exposure from football and basketball.

The one that ended with different faculty standing in a group and waving from an overhead view was definitely worse. I agree that they really aren't good.

I agree...ODU needs to redo this promotional video fast. This student is not the right fit and everyone I know is tired of idea fusion. Nobody knows what that is. It should be simple....creating the minds and leaders of the future, growing the minds of tomorrow, ......

Another example of the University thinking small time and not big time.

I am so glad someone started this thred. It is embarassing comparing the ODU "Idea Fusion" promo to every other university's promo. Even Richmond's was vastly better and more enticing.

I have family in Jersey and a few other places. Two years ago when we had an ODU Football game on NBC sports they ran this ad. My family loved this promo for the University. It gives a very tantalizing 40 sec teaser that is professional, informative and classy. It has the Idea Fusion at the end, but I still like this promo.

Hate the student montage. Reminds me of The Brady Bunch intro. Very amateurish.

Yup. Exhibit A of the poor marketing done by the administration. This commercial is awful.

This all ties in with the game atmosphere discussion. Our administration either does not value, or simply sucks at marketing and promotion.

Almost all of the TV ads they run suck. There was one that had a rocket in it one time that was OK and I hoped they had turned a corner then. The current commercial is not the worst. My biggest problem with it is the girl doesn't speak well and as a result comes across as not so bright. Love that its a real student, but couldn't they find one that represented us a little better on camera? She kind of mumbles through the commercial. Not sure why its so hard for ODU to get it right when it comes to marketing unless they just have too many people making them try to go in too many directions at once. Which is certainly possible. Pick a message and stick with it. The best one I remember (other than the big blue beast) was Modern Thinking for the Modern Mind. Made sense, had a decent jingle and the print materials that corresponded with it were decent. Idea fusion means nothing, and the commercial with the people waving was simply awful.

Ugh. I just got a Holiday Greetings email from ODU. In it was a video.

All I can say is

Just absolutely brutal.

I saw that email but didn't open it until reading your post. Then, I opened the video.

That was a mistake.

Wow that video is bad. ODU really needs to outsource these kinds of things. Lots of great firms out there.

The Holiday Greeting last year had great music and had a great touch to it. This year I had to stop watching it.

"Idea Fusion" leaves me cold...I guess it's "Cold Fusion."
