Again Kev, you are entitled to your opinion, but I just can't take you serious when you make a statement like, "BOTH teams would cream USC". You obviously haven't watched USC play AT ALL this season. I have, in fact, I have been to see them in person this year as well as watching them on tv another several games. They are very worthy of their #1 ranking and I think after they beat Michigan they will be given what's coming to them, a share of the national crown with Oklahoma.
As for their schedule, you can't honestly tell me that LSU had a tougher OOC schedule than did USC. LSU, outside of the SEC, scheduled LaTech, LaMon, Arizona, and a Div I-AA team Western Illinois. Meanwhile, the Trojans had Notre Dame, BYU, Hawaii, and Auburn on their plate. Regardless of how all of these teams all fared this year, USC's sked is far more more impressive than LSU's.
Your argument seems to be that because the Pac10 doesn't have a championship game and the SEC and Big 12 do, that gave Oklahoma and LSU a one game better record than USC, 12-1 as opposed to 11-1? I don't get that. In fact, if you'll remember Oklahoma just lost their championship game so I don't understand where that argument has any weight.
Some people want to talk about the USC loss to Cal. Ok, given it was an embarrassing loss at the time, but where did Cal's season wind up? They are playing VaTech in the Insight Bowl in Phoenix, so losing to Cal isn't as bad as some are making it out to be. Also, it took Cal a FG miss by USC and OT to beat the Trojans by a whopping 3 points, much like our game with LSU minus the OT.
Kev, the majority of the voters can't be wrong in putting USC #1 or #2 respectively. Even most LSU fans say that USC belongs in the Sugar Bowl. I even heard a former UCLA player, which UCLA is USC's hated cross-town rival, say that as much as he hates USC they deserve a chance at the NC. But don't take our word for it, just sit back and finally watch USC for a change this season. Watch them in the Rose bowl destroy Michigan, and watch the voters give them a share of the national title, then tell me how much they don't deserve it. Because at that point, I won't care about any naysayers' opinions. I will be too busy purchasing my USC National Champions shirts and hats. :D
